WSF2009 Belem Expanded: enlarging participation in the WSF 2009

The 2009 edition of World Social Forum, that will happen from January 27th to February 1st in Belém (state of Pará, Brazil), opens a new way of participation for movements, entities and civil society organisations who won't be able to come to Belem, and at the same time view themselves as active participants in WSF process.

An invitation  has been extended by IC during its last meeting in Copenhagen to those interested to participate in “ wsf2009 Belem expanded”

Any organisation, movement, group or entity can register ( see indication below) and organize a decentralized activity in it's own city or country, arranging moments of connection with other activities and organizations located in Belem or in  wsf2009 Belem Expanded.

Belem Expanded participants and Belem participants are invited  use the website OpenFSM to create spaces where  to make their activities visible and prepare them collaboratively.

 This way , wsf2009 participants will build and share a  common “virtual” wsf territory on www.openfsm.net site   gathering both activities in belem and decentralized activities that will happen outside Belem during the Forum dates.activities

In that common virtual territory,  they can look for partners activities and organisations interested to communicate with them during moments of connection for mutual information or for  building  convergences.

The moments of connection between two or more activities during WSF 2009  can be arranged using internet tools (as  text and audio chats or videoconferences), or using other communication means (as radio transmissions, letters, pictures and others).

Facilitation of  this wsf 2009 Belem expanded process

A working group  'FSM 2009 Interconexões' (link) has been  created between several organisations members of ic communication commission
They are  willing  to support  in a shared way this process of  participation in Belem expanded :  making one’s decentralized activity visible on openfsm.net  , finding partners for intercommunication and  preparing and planning moments of interconnections.

This group intends to :

• 1-moderate and facilitate the space “ towards Belem expanded”(link)  on line
• 2- publish a  list of activities in belem expanded (according to information collected in step 4 above)
• 3-publish a A schedule/planning of interconnections progressively defined between the participants in “towards belem expanded space “ and their belem counterparts ( according to information collected in step 4 above)
• 4-collectively operate a physical ” belem expanded” space in Belem wsf territory  “

There  some  simple internet, audio and video connection means will be made available to activities /organisations present In Belem and  having arranged moments of connections with activities registered in belem expanded 
Of course, this will be done on a “first planned, first served basis” according to availability of such means Belem expanded is the set of decentralized wsf2009 activities that will be held in the same time period as belem 2009 - January 26 - february 1st

 

Three Actions to become concretely part  of WSF2009 Belem expanded

A space “ towards wsf2009 Belem expanded” has already been created in www.openfsm.net .
its purpose is to facilitate contacts and share ideas  intentions and projects of  decentralized activities and of moments of connections.
Intentions of decentralized activities in several cities of the world are  already visible in that space: http://openfsm.net/projects/club-belemexpanded/list-en.

Preparation  for Belem Expanded activities requires three different actions .
Of course , the sooner these actions are taken the better

• 1- Join the “ towards belem expanded” space in openfsm.net
• 2- create a space in www.openfsm.net where to prepare and follow up their activity
• 3- download and fill  the activity  and moment of connection description form

1/ organizers of decentralized activities are then  invited to Join the “ towards belem expanded” space in openfsm.net announcing in which city they will be . A page for their city will be opened in the list of cities/place where they can describe the status of the decentralized activity
The purpose of this step is to make the intention of decentralized activity visible  to others and to Belem activities that will be looking in the space “ towards wsf2009  Belem expanded”  for partners

2/ organizers of decentralized activities are then invited to create a space in www.openfsm.net where to prepare and follow up their activity ( the same invitation is made for those that will organize an activity in belem) 
The purpose of this step is to dynamize local participation around the decentralized activity and allow direct contacts between spaces of different activities willing to have moments of connection together

3/ organizers of decentralized activities are invited to  fill  the activity  and moment of connection description form that will be made available soon .
This will be a necessity around November  in order for the belem expanded/interconnexoes working group to have a common  presentation of activities  and  assemble them into  a program of decentralized activities and also arrange a schedule of interconnections in the belem space ( see below)
