Outreach

Contact and initiate dialogue with organisations that expressed interest in memory and documentation at the IC meeting in Rabat; stimulate participation in memory and documentation within wider WSF 'universe'. The celebration of the 10th edition of the WSF in Porto Alegre in January 2010, which initiates the 2010 calendar of WSF activities, is a good opportunity to generate interest in memory; this is an important tool for mobilization as well as for the creation of an historical record.

Exhisting MEMORY BASIC project

Proposal taking account of the discussion and the fact that a memory project must start from understanding what to do with the allready exhisting memory material that is spread around the world and not yet available.

Introduction for memory basic project

Integrated WSF ARCHIVE

This is a more long-term project, based on the idea of creating an integrated WSF archive with a common database, in which all types of material can be uploaded and made available. The aim of the project would be to gather as much as possible of the material that has been proeduced on the WSF since 2001 in one place.

The website WSFTV.net can be developed in order to fulfil this function for audiovisual material. A detailed proposal is available here:

WSFTV.NET DEVELOPMENT PROJECT For other material, an option might be to develop a web portal that links to the sites of the different shared communication projects, as well as a 'WSF library' for other types of documentation. Crucial to this project would be a comprehensive yet easy to use system for classification and cataloguisation of material. Current proposals include:

The 10 objectives of the WSF , agreed for Nairobi 2007 and expanded for Belem 2009

The 21 actionable themes of the WSF, defined for Nairobi 2007and refined by librarians involved in the WSF library project

set-up of MEMORY TEAMS in each 2010 WSF event   >  initiative : WSF2010 memory teams

Stimulating the creation of *memory and documentation groups in each event in the 2010-11 calendar and exchange with them on experience accumulated in some of the past forums events in  encouraging individuals and groups to produce their documentation, and valuing at least certain part of those contents  by  giving them visibility anda ccountability   (which collective  has produced what content in a accountable way).

The automatic gahtering of those accountable inputs, along with some presentation structure becomes then a significant part of the collective memory.

Those memory groups can be helped in some case by the "event website" of their event, which can provide "forms" for documenting acivities and outcomes, and make those contents visible when browsing the event program after the event is over.

It seems logical to take advantage of the program data structure as an existing and  meaningful way to present  the memory of the event  to its participants and beyond,  along several perspectives (calendar, thematic/objective, methods, type of document, tagging, keywords, etc).

For this action line, "memory teams stimulating participants' documentation", there will probably  be inputs  from and cooperation with the "participation/internal communication" working group.

ORAL HISTORY  memory project

Project developed in collaboration with the Museum of the Person in São Paulo, an organisation that tells the story of processes and insitutions through the life stories of individuals. The project is based on the idea of celebrating 10 years of the WSF by creating a depository of personal histories which tells the story of the WSF so far.
