Some ideas about the WSF communication challenge (trying to organize and
deepen some of our exchanges of this morning, in our IC meeting):

1. 1. The WSF communication with the society is the biggest WSF
challenge (communication between organizations participating of the WSF
process is being solved little by little).

2. 2. It must be solved not by a specific IC commission but by all
our organizations participating of the WSF process.

3. 3. The IC Communication Commission have an operational
challenge to solve: how to help our organizations to do this (taking
into account that this Commission is not a technical group serving the
IC communication needs but a Commission helping the WSF communication
process)

4. 4. As organizations participating of the WSF process, we would
have three main messages to disseminate (by our own means and by all the
different tools that exist, in all types of expression and “languages”):

a) another world is possible (it is from the beginning the WSF
message (bringing the light of hope). Now we could also say that another
world is necessary and urgent (calling for action).

b) Yes, there are alternatives through which we will (and we are)
building a new world (contradicting Thachter and Davos message, about
no alternative – only the market logics). Inside this message we have
very much to speak: new paradigms, new universalities, new practices,
new networks, new movements, campaigns, struggles, etc. etc).

c) WSF is trying to build a new political culture (new practices,
new types of institutions, new voices, new ways of structuring our
actions and organizing, real and radical democracy, etc etc)

5. 5. Some of these messages are disseminated also by people and
organizations not participating necessarily of the WSF process. We also
have to link ourselves with them.

6. 6. The challenge for our organizations is: how to participate
of the IC meetings or of World Social Forums, return to our work and
bring to it the new dimensions discussed and proposed in the IC and in
the WSF. In other words, how to return to our work and do not forget
what we discussed, experienced, learned, interchanged (this in terms of
communication), and in relation with the new political culture (another
challenge is on how to realize effectively what we decided to do
together with others).

7. 7. The role of an IC communication commission would be to help
us (our organizations) to make as better as possible what we have to do
facing the communication challenge (which tools to use, new languages,
mutual help, interchanging experiences, stimulating all of us with the
experiences of others, preparing materials about the contents, catalyze
the innovation and the expansion, etc)

8. 8. For Dakar, all of us have to disseminate as much as possible
the message: come to Dakar, come to discuss the 3 messages, if you
cannot come discuss it in your organizations, follow what will be
discussed and proposed during Dakar’s Forum, link yourself to Dakar
through the existing means to do it including those proposed by the
Communication Commission .

Fraternally
