    Dear Azril,

It’s the first week in session for the 115th US Congress, and what’s top of
the agenda? Based on the vote they just took: *promoting Israel’s endless
    settlement expansion*.

*Your member of congress, Rep. Rick Crawford, voted in support of that
rightwing agenda. Make sure they hear from you.*

Two weeks ago the Obama administration did something that was long overdue:
for the first time in nearly a decade, the US did not stand in the way of
the United Nations affirming the international consensus that Israel’s
    settlement constructions violates international law.

While we know that halting settlement construction is a necessary but
insufficient step toward Palestinians having full rights and equality--and
abstention is far from a ringing endorsement of rights for all--the US
abstention in the UN Security Council (UNSC) was still a welcome change.

But now legislators are proving they will fight even incremental progress
toward justice and peace with everything they’ve got. Indeed, they voted to
pass House Resolution 11 this afternoon, condemning even the mild
anti-settlement move of abstaining from the UNSC resolution.

80 members of congress voted no to the resolution, standing up against that
agenda, but your representative voted yes to Israel’s continued impunity.

*We need to tell them we will resist every step of the way.*

We’re not surprised that the 115th congress is moving so fast to back
Israel’s disregard for human rights and international law. We know that the
new US administration and congress is going to be pursuing retrograde,
racist, rights-abolishing policy from every angle.

The fights ahead are going to be epic: there is already legislation pending
about moving the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, giving a green
light to Israel’s annexation of the city. Trump’s pick for Ambassador to
Israel is David Friedman, a settlement funder who is eagerly awaiting his
move to Jerusalem and aligned with the farthest right wing of Israeli
politics. Indeed, next week confirmation hearings begin for Trump’s cabinet
of horrors, spelling disaster for Palestinians as well as for working
people, people of color, women, queer and trans people, immigrants, and
    Muslims.

*The fight ahead is going to be constant, and it’s going to take all of us.*

We believe those 80 no votes represent the thousands of letters to the
editor, phone calls, and emails, so many of our members have been sending
over the last few days. And even more, those no votes represent the vast
and growing-by-the-minute Palestinian-led movement for justice, liberation,
and equality, and the way that our movement is and will hold elected
officials accountable to a vision of the future where all are free.

*Organizing works. And that includes holding Rep. Rick Crawford
    accountable. Act now.*
