Hi Hilde, Hi every one,
thank you for starting the discussion.
I can speak here as focuspuller group that in these past years have collected quite a big amount of video documentation of the wsf around the world.
Many cassets = many hours of testimonies and plenarys are available. Of the huge amount of material, in these years, since 2003 at the first European SF in Firenze,  the group has been active in coverage and edit material.  Documentaries of many wsf, and recently for the globalday in 2008,  we have also prepared a number of smaller videos that were pubblished on wsftv. Since the opening of wsftv a year and a half ago, focus puller has contributed with a lot of other material from the recent forum and related events and from his archive, pubblishing on wsftv.
Wsftv is the only website where one is able to share videos, that means anybody can upload and/ or download material to be used for social movements activities of any kind.
We heve a lot of unedited material also.
Memory is  text, audio, video documentation related to wsf and we have tonns of video material that is available. To be able to at least catalogue it all and pubblish it all,  we need a lot of time (funds!), and in the idea of a common database, a common criteria of catalogation should be defined better, I think.
Some ideas were developed by us sometime ago, but not having time/funds to carry on it, we were forced to not accomplish what we wanted to do. one thing is about finding the less number of subjects as possible where to contain every document we have. I had seen a good list in some website.... I'll look for it again and send it for discussion.
Concerning video collection of memory, I would say that wsftv  is the database tool for everyone. it needs some developing, but a structured idea and project for implementation of this database is almoust ready and includes a possible answer to some of your Hilde's questions.

thats all for now,
I'll collect all we have written about memory in the past and send it asap.
ciao a tutti

Olá pessoal

Obrigada Pierre pela criação da lista! Vou ecrever em inglês, espero que tudo mundo entenderem (se não, diga e eu vou tentar traducir...)

We need to start thinking about the project or strategy of the memory and documentation working group. In the chat on Wednesday 24th it was suggested that every working group has a draft project proposal ready by 4th July, which is next Saturday!

This is just a quick message for now with a few things to consider, to get a discussion going.

Outreach: how to involve new organisations and particpants? Who has already expressed an interest in memory/documention? Who has been involved previously? Who could we invite?

What kinds of memory/documentation is within the remit of this working group? There are many different things that can be considered 'documentation', including:
1. Memory of Forum events (reports on activities etc.)
2. Outcomes/results of Forum events (for example, declarations of Assemblies or results gathered by 'outcomes projects')
3. Coverage produced by shared media projects (Forum TV, Forum radio, Ciranda)
4. Organisational documents (for example, reports from IC meetings, strategy and discussion papers)
...and others?

What kind of documentation/memory is needed for 2010/2011? How can this be integrated with previous work? 'WSF documentation' exists in many different places, there are lots of different websites - should part of our project be to organise this information, for example by linking to different sites through some kind of portal?

I'm sorry these are just questions rather than proposals for now. Let me know what you think.

abraços,
Hilde
