ASSEMBLY of CULTURE and EDUCATION for TRANSFORMATION
Collective declaration
Principal aims
• To develop cultural actions of resistance into cultural actions of sustainable transformation in all regions of the world;
• To enable social movements to develop techniques and forms of dialogic political culture;
• To transform the next WSF into a huge dialogic stage which celebrates cultural manifestations of resistance and liberation; advocates artistic languages and cultural production as the basis of formal, non-formal and informal education; demonstrates a new paradigm of formation and capacitation of artists and teachers (popular and institutional) in aesthetic, ethical and solidarity-based pedagogies; and cultivates a dialogic, participatory, motivating and effective WSF in 2011.
How:
• Build a Thematic Social Forum on Culture and Arts Education for Transformation in Belém, Brazil, in July 2010 as a continuation of the 2009 WSF, with actions in all the regions of the world, to build the Working Group for Culture for the 2011 WSF.
• Create, integrate and/or mobilize regional networks of arts, culture and education to form regional Working Groups of Culture which will develop into spaces of formation, formulation of integrated politics and intercultural exchange and collaboration for the 2011 WSF.
• Include the arts and culture as pedagogical, training and aesthetic methods in the processes of creating all Working Groups.
• Motivate regional Working Groups of Culture to create solidarity funds to ensure the inclusion of artistic and cultural groups in the 2011 WSF.
• Motivate the application of tested methods – circular, dialogic, participatory and artistic – to decolonize the forms of the activities of the 2011 WSF to build a participatory, poetic, intimate and pleasurable Forum.
• Guarantee the participation of communities from the host city of the WSF through activities carried out in their spaces and include their cultural manifestations and socio-political struggles in the spaces of the WSF.
• Guarantee the inclusion of artistic activities – particularly non-verbal and sporting – for children, elderly people and participants with special needs.
• Finally, create a 2011 WSF to be a huge experience of solidarity and ecological and intercultural practice so that it can serve as an inspiring and convincing example that another world is possible, yes, but also that it is already emerging!
