Description

Since the 25th of January revolution, the workers movement in Egypt is developing to an unprecedented strength in term of protests (thousands of workers protests were documented in 2012) and registering independent trade unions (more than a thousand since the revolution), in their struggle against neo-liberal economic policies put forward by the Global financial community and the Muslim Brotherhood's neo-liberal government. This wave of strikes and unionization is faced with unprecedented level of state repression in Egypt. In this workshop, different experts will discuss (1) the main developments in the workers movement in Egypt, (2) the main state violations against the movement, (3) how does the workers movement influence the path of transition in Egypt, and (4) how can international networks of solidarity help coordinating the struggle on similar issues.
