Description

"workers and farmers write their constitution" is a grass rooted initiative that produced a constitutional document concerned with economic and social rights as a result the collection of demands from workers, farmers, fishermen, petty employees, and other generally poor social groups on what they want to include in the constitution. Thousands participated in this initiative from 24 governorates in Egypt. These roughly phrased demands were categorized and drafted in a legal and detailed language producing an interesting constitutional document. In this Workshop, organizers of the campaign will (1) reflect on the results of the campaign, (2) discuss challenges in including economic and social rights in the transitional justice and restructuring the legislative system in Egypt.
