  5eme forum social congolais  7 10 avril 2022

PRESS RELEASE The 5th Congolese Social Forum: convergence of Civil Society Movements and Dynamics

The secretariat of the Congolese Social Forum has the real pleasure of bringing to the attention of Congolese, African and world opinion, the holding of the 5th Edition of the Congolese Social Forum, from 07 to 10 April 2022 in Kinshasa, at the Athénée of Victory. And this, just 1 month before the big edition of the World Social Forum, which will be held in Mexico City, Mexico, from May 1 to 6, 2022.

This 5th Congolese Social Forum is being organized in a national context marked by the preparation of the first presidential and legislative elections since the political alternation of 2019. The national context is also marked by timid democratic progress, the rise in power of the inspection General of Finance which tracks down the embezzlers of public funds, the launch of a development program for 145 territories, the multiplication of government initiatives to improve governance, free basic education, etc.

In view of the above, it should be noted that the country lives in recurrent insecurity and chronic instability in its eastern part where two provinces are under siege. Added to this is the continued deterioration of social conditions and the shrinking space for freedom of expression. Several laws are passed by Parliament at the national and provincial levels, but suffer from a lack of implementing measures. Organizations, Movements and various Dynamics of Civil Society are always on the alert to denounce, challenge but also to support the population in the search for solutions and offer decision-makers alternative ways to improve the situation.

Besides that, solidarity is giving way step by step to individualism, selfishness and egocentrism, making more and more room for the pangs of neoliberalism. The taste for lucre daily sacrifices Congolese consumers on the altar of the selfish interests of multinationals and crooked traders. Everything has become dependent on financial strength: education, health, housing, food, clothing, leisure, mobility, etc.

The Congolese Social Forum aims to be an open and democratic space for organizations, movements and dynamics of civil society, through which substantive debates are organized and concrete alternatives are built and proposed to decision-makers. A space through which the Congolese population gives its opinion on its destiny.

A cordial invitation is extended to Congolese civil society organizations, from all corners of the country, to actively participate in the activities of the 5th Congolese Social Forum. The Democratic Process in the DRC, Peace, Economic and Social Rights, Rights of Women, Youth and Vulnerable People, Workers' Rights, State of Social Protection, Management of Natural Resources, Food Sovereignty, will be the subject of debates, exchanges of experiences and positions taken during the Forum. All are called to make this Forum a real opportunity for the promotion of solidarity and great Congolese mobilization for social, economic and political justice.

Organizations and technical and/or financial partners who so wish can organize workshops, exhibitions and campaigns within the Forum Site. Admission is free, but you must register in advance.

The FSC Secretariat launches a strong appeal to all the friends of the FSC and to the partners of the Congolese Civil Society for financial and material support in order to strengthen the methodological and logistical preparation of this fifth edition which relies on a massive participation of Organizations, Movements and Dynamics of the whole country. We encourage them to support the care of participants coming from different provinces.
