  • Decidem prospects for Australian fearless city

    To MetaDecidim community.

Bravo. I seek to juxtapose Decidim architecture - within a single Australian city - with the municipalist movement, which is also embryonic here. Municipalism is of course epitomised by the Fearless Cities, which we hope to learn more about at next year's forum in Barcelona.

I acknowledge Decidim's tweeted response about English-language implementation - that it's all on the website, and I smile. Friends from Oxfam (UK) and others will attend Barcelona's forum next year and, at this stage, I feel we are best served to establish an English-language enclave under, or near, the MetaDecidim tent. Is this possible/ sensible?

A rigorous analysis of the pilot Australian implementation site is warranted. Already Perth rules themselves out because they adopt a conflicted Smart City architecture. If Metadecidim wants high glamour/moderate risk, it boils down to a 2-horse race between Sydney or Melbourne. On the other hand, I wonder how much emphasis to give to the attitude of the current/future city administrations. For example, between Brisbane and Adelaide is like chalk and cheese. I now live in Adelaide but worked in Brisbane between 1977-1981. World Social Forum previously attempted to run a World Cafe, to coincide with the G20 leaders' conference in Brisbane. Sadly, it was unsuccessful because of lack of resources, but the experience may still be beneficial to Decidim implementation. Still, I have absolutely no experience at such an evaluation - its rigour, timing, scope - but am willing to assist.

    Until we meet at Barcelona
I remain in solidarity with the Metadicidim community
