I confirm that the International Solidarity Committee for the Iraqi
Social Forum (ISF) will have the next Skype chat tomorrow, Wednesday

The text of our last chat can be read here:

    http://openfsm.net/projects/iraq-social-forum/isc-meeting6

    Draft agenda for tomorrow:
    - updates from the Iraqi committee
    - organization of the interpreters training
    - facilitation of the Extended ISF
    - security and visa for internationals at the ISF

Meanwhile I inform you that we have 27 proposals of Extended activities,
and 40 internationals who registered to go to Baghdad! Some are asking
for financial support in order to pay for their trip, we need to discuss
    this tomorrow.

The great news is that Karibu Foundation may be funding the interpreters
training, even if a final decision can be taken only on August 22 by
their board. We are therefore getting organized to do it for real!

    • Agreements on Extended Forum, after today's chat

from martinapm on Aug 21, 2013 06:24 PM
      Dear all,
today's chat was useful for us to clarify issues on the Extended Iraqi
Social Forum. Even if the whole text of the chat will be available
online, I sum-up here the main agreements. Additional options need to be
discussed again because there was no consensus that they are
sustainable, and many of us think that offering too many options may
scare/confuse/demotivate participants in the Extended forum.
*I ask the ISF Committee in Baghdad to confirm soon if they want to
stream the main events, like the opening event or the final plenary
assembly. Internationals are very interested in following these moments,
and would like to know when they take place.*

Another chat of the ISF Extension Team will take place on Monday, August
26, at 5 pm (Italian time). If you want to participate please contact
      the skype user: isf.extensionteam

The next general chat of the International Solidarity Committee for the
Iraqi Social Forum (ISF) will take place on Wednesday 28th of August, at
14:00 GMT (that is 16:00 in Italy, 17:00 in Iraq).

      *EXTENDED IRAQI SOCIAL FORUM*

      _Definition of activities:_

      1) SOLIDARITY ACTIVITY happens before the forum, in Iraq or abroad,
trying to establish a Skype connection with someone from the ISF committee
      2) TELE-PARTICIPATION happens during the forum, through events organized
abroad or in other Iraqi cities (who ask to connect with someone at the
ISF, and hear about what is going on in Baghdad) or events organized at
the ISF which are open to internet participation from internationals and
from other Iraqi cities (through streaming or a collective Skype call)
      3) TELE-EXCHANGE is the more complex and rewarding activity, with two or
more groups preparing the workshop together and doing it simultaneously
during the ISF, through internet connection. One group will be in
Baghdad, other groups in other Iraqi cities or abroad

      _How to organize them:_

      1) SOLIDARITY ACTIVITIES: Martina will ask those who proposed them to
write us : when, where and at what time they plan to do the activities
and what is the content, and set a deadline to get all this info
(September 10). The ISF Secretariat will convey the same info to Martina
about solidarity activities organized in Iraq. Afterwards, the Iraqi
Extension Team will have to find relevant activists from the ISF
Committee to participate through skype calls in every event. This way we
can do a schedule of Solidarity activities before the ISF, this program
can be ready on September 15

      2) TELE PARTICIPATION when the EVENT is ORGANIZED ABROAD, OR IN ANOTHER
IRAQI CITY during the ISF: we need to know again when and where and at
what time they plan to do the activities and what is the content,
Martina can send a similar email to internationals with the same
deadline (Sept 10, that can be moved of a few days eventually), Ismaeel
will write to the Iraqis who proposed activities through the
international website. The extension team in Baghdad will have a program
of these activities before the forum starts, and look for relevant
persons during the ISF who can come to the Extension Office at the ISF
      venue at each time.
So we will have an Extension Office where people go to connect with
people outside, and make a speech on what is happening at the ISF.

TELE PARTICIPATION for EVENTS ORGANIZED IN BAGHDAD, at the ISF: We need
to identify if the Iraqis who registered events in Baghdad want to open
them to extension. The Iraqi Extension team should ask them to appoint
within Sept 15 one person of their organization who can follow the
extension, and teach this person how to manage a streaming or a skype
conference. The Iraqi Extension team will also convey to Iraq groups the
interest of internationals to follow their activity online, if
internationals signal it before September 5. Links of streaming channels
and skype contacts can be collected before the ISF, and all these
activities will be allocated in Extension Rooms. These Extended
Activities will be signalled in the ISF program.

      3) TELE-EXCHANGE needs to be discussed by the Extension Team during the
      next chat on Monday.

        Dear All,

about the extended activities of ISF I want remember SAV. I hope that as soon as possible will begin a campaign for giving visibility to this important event that is the opening of ISF: some Skype meeting ago we have spoken what kind of connection we can find between the end of SAV and beginning of ISF, I always believe that a run from Sport college to the ISF place could be the best way: we don’t have to advertising this before, but using it after do, with photos and documentary!

Other important proposal for us should be organize SAV in every place in the world represented in ISF: this could be do in contemporary with SAV Baghdad or in other period but always with same message.

Thank you for the attention to these proposals, all the best.

      Dears,
I will miss today's chat as I need to attend the Guantanamo 9/11 hearings
and I was told that there is no longer public wifi access on the army base
where I will be. I will read the chat and send comments tonight. I will
      be on next week's chat.

    • Chat of International Committee for ISF today, Wednesday 28th of August

from martinapm on Aug 28, 2013 02:25 AM
      Dear all,

the International Solidarity Committee for the Iraqi Social Forum (ISF)
will have the next Skype chat today, Wednesday 28th of August, at 14:00
GMT (that is 16:00 in Italy, 17:00 in Iraq)*.
      ***
      Draft agenda for today:
      - updates from the Iraqi committee
      - updates on the interpreters'training (happening these days)
      - financial situation of the ISF and financial support asked by some
      international participants
      - first risk assessment to be sent to all international registered
      participants
      - Tele-Exchanges to be organized by our organizations during the ISF,
with groups meeting in parallel in Baghdad and elsewhere. Let's share
our intentions to organize such events, to make the Extended ISF a real
option to build/consolidate bridges to Iraq!

Hoping a war on Syria will not screw up soon the whole Middle Eastern
region, more than it is already :-(

      • Chat of International Committee for ISF tomorrow IN ARABIC ONLY

from martinapm on Sep 10, 2013 02:53 PM
        Dear all,

due to major committments of some of us (mobilizing for peace in
Syria!), the chat of the International Solidarity Committee for the
Iraqi Social Forum (ISF) will be done in *ARABIC ONLY*, tomorrow:
Wednesday 11th of September, at 14:00 GMT (that is 16:00 in Italy, 17:00
in Iraq)*. We hope not only Iraqis, but people from the Arab world and
all those who understand some Arabic will participate as well.* We will
get a report in English in this mailinglist after the chat.

Sorry for this change in plans, but in recent chats there was little
participation of internationals, and for Iraqis it's very complicated to
have a chat with simultaneous English-Arabic translation. We need now to
get as many info as possible from them.
        **
        Some good news for you:
        - the whole ISF committee approved a new risk assessment (will be sent
soon to registered participants) and is convinced there are no major
risks for internationals coming for the ISF, they insist we go!
        - ISF secretariat was able to get the national theater for the formal
opening of ISF, on Sept 26!
        - UNDP wants to support the ISF process after the forum!
        - the Ministry of Environment will produce 2000 bags for the ISF, with
the ISF logo, adding info on environmental protection!
        - Obama, Putin and al-Assad may give peace a chance

            Thanks anyway Ahmad,
has the Iraqi Social Forum been presented/discussed at the Tunis meeting
of the Maghreb-Mashreq Social Forum? What was the feedback of people?

                            Dear all,

due to major committments of some of us (mobilizing for
peace in Syria!), the chat of the International
Solidarity Committee for the Iraqi Social Forum (ISF)
will be done in ARABIC ONLY, tomorrow: Wednesday
11th of September, at 14:00 GMT (that is 16:00 in Italy,
17:00 in Iraq). We hope not only Iraqis, but people
from the Arab world and all those who understand some
Arabic will participate as well. We will get a
report in English in this mailinglist after the chat.

Sorry for this change in plans, but in recent chats
there was little participation of internationals, and
for Iraqis it's very complicated to have a chat with
simultaneous English-Arabic translation. We need now to
get as many info as possible from them.

                              Some good news for you:

                              - the whole ISF committee approved a new risk assessment
(will be sent soon to registered participants) and is
convinced there are no major risks for internationals
coming for the ISF, they insist we go!

                              - ISF secretariat was able to get the national theater
for the formal opening of ISF, on Sept 26!

                              - UNDP wants to support the ISF process after the forum!

                              - the Ministry of Environment will produce 2000 bags for
the ISF, with the ISF logo, adding info on environmental
                              protection!

                              - Obama, Putin and al-Assad may give peace a chance

              • Chat of International Committee for ISF tomorrow in English and Arabic

from martinapm on Sep 18, 2013 12:54 AM
                Dear all,

I confirm that the International Solidarity Committee for the Iraqi
Social Forum (ISF) will have the *next Skype chat tomorrow, Wednesday
18th of September, at 14:00 GMT (that is 16:00 in Italy, 17:00 in
Iraq)*, maybe the last**before the ISF.
I'm not sure we will manage to have another chat next week, while some
of us will be in Baghdad already.

                Some great news:
                - the Extended ISF started today with great activities in Bangladesh and
Pakistan! I'm waiting for info from Pakistan, and I'm almost ready to
send you the program of the Extended ISF, with activities extending till
                October 6
                - we now have visa for almost all internationals wishing to travel to
Baghdad (except the last 8 people who are still uncertain, due to late
application), the visa letter to the Arabs has been sent already, while
for others it will come tomorrow
                - the draft program of the Iraqi Social Forum is exceptionally
interesting (we'll share a draft tomorrow before the chat)
                - the training program "Organizing for nonviolent social change" will
take place just before the ISF (Sept 23-25) in Baghdad Hotel with 20
participants among skilled and brave Iraqi activists. Thanks to NOVACT
                for making it happen!

                And the bad news:
the security situation is deteriorating again. New terrible wave of
attacks yesterday. Tomorrow we'll get another risk assessment.

                *Agenda for our chat:**
**- international participants going to Baghdad, we need to finalize the
                list**
**- reviewing security procedures for those going to Baghdad**
**- Extended ISF, what needs to be done to create connections**
**- ISF program, comments and contribution of internationals*

                In Solidarity,

Thanks Martina. I will try my best to take part in the chat tomorrow
although I might need to leave a bit earlier as I’m travelling in the
afternoon/early evening. Regarding the interpreter training, I wonder if we
are still in a position to hold the training at the end of August or if we
will finally need to go into the first week in September but I suppose we
    can discuss this tomorrow.

Looking forward to talking to you then.

    Best wishes,

Asunto: [Iraq Social Forum] Chat of International Committee for ISF
    tomorrow, Wednesday 14th of August

    Dear all,

I confirm that the International Solidarity Committee for the Iraqi Social
Forum (ISF) will have the next Skype chat tomorrow, Wednesday 14th of
August, at 15:00 GMT (that is 17:00 in Italy, 18:00 in Iraq). Please notice
that we go back to usual time, since Ramadan ended.

The text of our last chat can be read here:

    http://openfsm.net/projects/iraq-social-forum/isc-meeting6
    <http://openfsm.net/projects/iraq-social-forum/isc-meeting5>

    Draft agenda for tomorrow:
    - updates from the Iraqi committee
    - organization of the interpreters training
    - facilitation of the Extended ISF
    - security and visa for internationals at the ISF

Meanwhile I inform you that we have 27 proposals of Extended activities, and
40 internationals who registered to go to Baghdad! Some are asking for
financial support in order to pay for their trip, we need to discuss this
    tomorrow.

The great news is that Karibu Foundation may be funding the interpreters
training, even if a final decision can be taken only on August 22 by their
board. We are therefore getting organized to do it for real!
