4 - 5mn video – 40 mn BOAVENTURA ADDRESS

[16:22:58] sorry about the sound problems

[16:24:52] Now we will hear from Boaventura de Sousa Santos ( live Spanish to English translation by Maryam) Ahora escucharemos de Boaventura de Sousa Santos (espanol audio – written traducción en ingles por Maryam)

We have been confronting the contradictions, when we meet they are not hear (I am translating) I was in front of a church where people were talking about racism - the teachers were on strike .I do think we are living a contradiction Nos hemos enfrentado a las contradicciones, cuando nos encontramos no están escuchando (estoy traduciendo) Yo estaba delante de una iglesia donde la gente estaba hablando de racismo - los maestros estaban en huelga. Creo que estamos viviendo una contradicción

We are not living a global assembly, we are living an exclusive assembly .if we want to carry out an assembly that is not participatory at all? We don’t need to live such a contradiction. Moreover it was not language that changed. Rajesh I accept your idea: I would be much happier here from the S America we think with our head and our heart. I would be much happier if we could decide this is not a global assembly: we need to agree that this is a preparation for a global assembly. We should plan what will be a true global assembly No estamos viviendo una asamblea global, estamos viviendo una asamblea exclusiva. No necesitamos vivir tal contradicción.

[16:34:01] Should we not call it PAR (Participatory Action Research network? It’s not just S America. We should raise awareness. ARNA is a victim of its own success. We have many more questions that need asking : male to female ratio: participants are 80% female but our panels have been men. in patriarchal and capitalist states we live in contradictions . I would like to address a few issues reflections for you [16:34:01] ¿No deberíamos llamarlo IAP (Red de Investigación Acción Participativa) No es sólo S América Debemos aumentar la conciencia ARNA es una víctima de su propio éxito Tenemos muchas más preguntas que necesitan preguntar: Femenina: los participantes son 80% mujeres pero nuestros paneles han sido hombres.en estados patriarcales y capitalistas vivimos en contradicciones.Me gustaría abordar algunas cuestiones reflexiones para usted

I was a friend of Orlando (Falls Borda) we discussed PAR. I would like to say there was unease over the last few days following the ideas of the giants who have brought us here . It’s difficult to move on without them. They looked at things with coherence. I think the best way to honor Orlando we need to move forward in the context of our current time. The context has changed. They wrote in a context of great turbulence a context of revolution the USA was trying to control it Yo era un amigo de Orlando (Falls Borda) hablamos IAP.

That was the context and the context is now different we don’t have revolution, now we have savage neo-liberalism. When Orlando was around he had to talk to the guerrillas. If you want to do PAR now you will have to negotiate the idea of neo-liberalism in Colombia is that we need to fight to a non neo liberalism peace, people now have a lot of knowledge but they are informed by media and social media Ese fue el contexto y el contexto es ahora diferente que no tenemos la revolución, ahora tenemos un neoliberalismo salvaje.

We are a different time; the new social leaders are working with computers governments of the first decade are in a crisis. There are teacher strikes. Orlando had an idea of social emancipation. There are many ways to talk about socialism, socialism is a white trap, it says nothing, they talk about mother earth. So here there are distinctions as well the concept of social class the concept of gender and race was not as important Somos un tiempo diferente; Los nuevos líderes sociales están trabajando con computadoras los gobiernos de la primera década están en crisis.

Orlando went out of university, many of us are within. When I say epistemology of the South, we need to resist capitalism. In Africa they say that the story of Africa has been told by the hunter. it will be different when the losers tell their stories Orlando salió de la universidad, muchos de nosotros estamos dentro.

There is colonialism in our time. It’s not just a foreign power. You can get internal colonialism . It is still around. We talk about capitalism; we need to talk about colonialism. If you are black if will fall victim of police brutality; people are moving between metropolitan city and a colonial city, if you are black you can be taken to prison. Sociability of being to being excluded as is the case with woman when she does not earn the same wage where she may go home and be killed. In my country 400 women are killed every year, it is more here and in India Hay colonialismo en nuestro tiempo.

[16:49:59] Participatory Action Research? We have to make things more democratic. Sometimes we see movements that do not work together, anti-capitalist is not enough: we all need to be anti-colonialist anti patriarchy anti-racism. We must make horizontal movements, move outside universities. We bring together academics and people from different social movements, connecting popular knowledge with academic knowledge. We need to create a popular knowledge; this requires diversity [16:49:59] ¿Investigación de Acción Participativa?

There is a lack of trust between people - we must create inter-knowledge between those who are oppressed. It’s possible that there can be a horizontal relationship. We need a public declaration. We brought together the women’s movement and the African movements we discussed land. We created links that can be worked on between women and peasants. The women decided the fight for land was also a women’s issue, it was coordination. Many of us do not know how to coordinate. Many of the elites send their universities to elite places, that cause a massive problem for public universities. We prefer paying students. I believe university needs popular education. They are very comfortable.

We need to find a way to organize knowledge in a way that subjectivity is horizontal. We need an oral history, not just a written history. We want to reduce it to written. We need ways to bring in popular movements into examining PhDs here we are sowing seeds. What do we do with Orlando? We need to move onto another place, we will be faithful to their legacy, but we must move on Necesitamos encontrar una forma de organizar el conocimiento de manera que la subjetividad sea horizontal. Necesitamos una historia oral, no sólo una historia escrita. Queremos reducirlo a escrito.

5 - [16:44:23] Alex (canada): I agree, negotiations are fundamental, my concern is about Impunity; Colombia in "post conflicto" We (Im colombian Canadian) can deal with some levels of impunity BUT access to the truth, from the perspective of the victims is the only way to finally get peace Estoy de acuerdo, las negociaciones son fundamentales, mi preocupación es la impunidad; Colombia en "post conflicto" Nosotros (Im colombiano canadiense) podemos lidiar con algunos niveles de impunidad PERO el acceso a la verdad, desde la perspectiva de las víctimas es la única manera de conseguir finalmente la paz

11 - QUESTION 2 WHO ARE WE TOGETHER

[16/06/2017 18:33:00] Maryam (cartagena)next question who are we together?

[16/06/2017 18:33:12] Maryam (cartagena) Siguiente pregunta ¿quiénes somos juntos?

[16/06/2017 18:37:58] Robyn (UK) I love the prospect of giving practitioner knowledge of the particular personally created knowledge that makes their knowledge effective greater credibility through this process. All power to your elbow, Robyn

[16/06/2017 18:41:57] Pierre (France): we would like to hear also those who are in Cartagena after three days of conference :-) may be they have inspiring ideas based on contacts those last three days. Meaning you who we see in the video (bow)

[16/06/2017 18:42:25] Paulo ( Ecuador Chile): (y)

[16/06/2017 18:43:13] Maryam (cartagena)It has been interesting to put our work in a global context and to come to meet so many people who are doing the same in their own way) Ha sido interesante poner nuestro trabajo en un contexto global y llegar a conocer a tantas personas que están haciendo lo mismo a su manera

[16/06/2017 18:43:54] Maryam (cartagena)It is highly politicized here in a way that it is not in the UK. Está altamente politicized aquí en una manera que no está en el Reino Unido )We three are all in mental health or disability Nosotros tres estamos en discapacidad o salud mental

[16/06/2017 18:43:57] Robyn (UK) 'I am because we are ' (Ubuntu ) and 'we are because I am ' - thank you to Marie (UK): for the second part of this statement. Can you see me??!!

arna5.png

[16/06/2017 18:49:03] Maryam (cartagena)Next question what is the relationship between your knowledge and my knowledge?

[16/06/2017 18:50:51] Pierre (France): Am new to PAR “ecosystem” and i wonder what can come out of this gathering where apparently diverse use of PAR is made in diverse cultural and institutional contexts and with diverse political intensity . so am not sure if there is a “together” that can be verbalized –other than a rather fuzzy methodological one. I do not see answers to this question “ who are we together” in the chat room . May be there can be several “ together” that will pave the way for several type of initiatives in part three ?

[16/06/2017 18:52:16] Maryam (cartagena)good point pierre)Buen punto pierre

[16/06/2017 18:52:30] Robyn (UK) The together is something about common intentions/ motivations/ values that we work towards. It is my guess these are democratising values...Robyn: El conjunto es algo acerca de las intenciones / motivaciones / valores comunes a los que trabajamos. Creo que son valores democratizadores ...

[16/06/2017 18:53:21] Maryam (cartagena)what might the democratising values be?Cuáles podrían ser los valores democratizadores?

[16/06/2017 18:58:37] Maryam (cartagena) does anyone have a contribution about what values we need for knowledge democracy?

[16/06/2017 18:59:59] Robyn (UK) How about actively valuing the knowledge created by everyone and by declaring that is what you are doing, using this value as the standard by which you can be called to account/ evaluate you do as you claim?

[16/06/2017 19:00:45] Maryam (cartagena)we have written that Robyn

[16/06/2017 19:08:49] Robyn (UK) I believe participatory research still implies that someone knowledgeable is over seeing/ mediating the knowledge. I prefer that we create enabling relationships with people that value the knowledge THEY create as well as me. As the relationships are established within the knowledge creating environment, we will become increasingly able to use the critiques of each other in our generation of our own personal knowledge.

12 - 2h40mn  VISITA DE BOAVENTURA IN OUR GROUP

2h40mn inviting Boaventura - I can speak in english - there are people – say hello waving

Boaventura : can I say something ?

We are here in Cartagena At the end of a very important conference on PAR, and we are going through the tensions that are being experienced by this methodologies, because there are different ways of understanding them, and am glad to be part of this discussion.. The world is ugly, and our PAR is not effective enough to confront these inequalities –and we are still in the investigation universities institution and I often say  we run revolutionary ideas in reactionary institutions

It is not a global assembly, it is a preparatory meeting for an assembly in the future, because 80% of the people are no here anymore, most people are not here it would be participatory even if decision are just , we are enjoying ourselves , it will be of consequences, when people here go back to their institution and will change a little bit our universities

People are asking you questions Boaventura !

13 - FUTURE OF ALICE PROJECT

[16/06/2017 19:02:53] Pierre (France): (wave) Boaventura

[16/06/2017 19:03:00] Maryam (cartagena) De souza is speaking https://youtu.be/K2kZ01ab0MQ

[16/06/2017 19:05:03] Paulo ( Ecuador Chile): thanks

Boaventura  can you  say what's going to happen with the Alice project? Went to Alice's site and it all ends in late 2016?

No, the Alice project does not end, in fact, because we transform the projects into the Alice program and we are going to continue to organize more new projects and in fact we have in CLACSO, this course of epistemologies of the South; Where we have 600 people in two editions and many of them want to share research do what we call "non extractivist research" and we will continue, it is now program project, and the page will continue to active thanks

[16/06/2017 19:05:21] Paulo ( Ecuador Chile): hi Boaventura!

[16/06/2017 19:07:15] Pierre (France): Boaventura - sería bueno si las actividades en Alice se colocarían en la dinámica de extensión del FSM- it would be good if the activities in Alice would be placed in the dynamic of extension of the WSF

[16/06/2017 19:10:16] Pierre (France): Boaventura – colocar una actividad en la dinámica de extensión del foro es solamente abrirla a los participantes en el foro social es parte de la dinámica de diálogo en este proceso, como hacemos ahora. así las discusiones en el proceso foro social siguen activas sin consideración de dinero pasaporte visa etc es un lugar donde trabajar y divulgar prácticas que inciden sobre las divisiones que mencionas putting an activity in the extension of the forum is only opening it to participants in the social fórum, it is part of the dynamic of dialogue in this process, As we do now. So the discussions in the social forum process remain active without consideration of passport money visa etc is a place to work and disseminate practices that impact on the divisions you mention

I really feel that I am not a father, but I am a child of the world social forum - and would like the WSF to go ahead, unfortunately because of some people who have tried to control the WSF process, the process is a Little sick because we need political decisions, brazil great country where WSF was born, there was not enough resistance to stop the institutional coup – Fora Temer ¡  yes is of course illegitimate government for me at least I think - we the spirit but I think The world social forum must also be reinvented - that is why we are there

De ahí la importancia de esta dinámica de extensión en el foro social mundial  between local forums, which I agree are important / relevant, you can / should also develop horizontal interlocution with distance participation to maintain diverse vision / identity / Global among the participants in a true anti-hegemonic process. Hence the importance of this dynamic of extension in the world social forum

14- PUENTES

[16/06/2017 19:08:08] Paulo ( Ecuador Chile): hola Boaventura, como ves tu que podemos avanzar en puentes entre lo académico y el conocimiento popular?, pensando en las organizaciones sociales que apuestan por lo popular y la Universidad por lo académico  Hello Bonaventure, how do you see that we can move on bridges between academic and popular knowledge ?, thinking about social organizations that bet on the popular and the Academic University

I spoke here this morning in which I decided that much of this work has to be done outside the institutions - we have to create the counter university within the university - for example the PUSM ( popular university of social movement)  workshops, and You can consult the page, we have done all these workshops 1/3 academic 2/3 leaders of different movements and we meet all day to discuss issues that are of interest to the movements - this is done outside the university people do not Wants to enter because he feels intimidated by the university spaces, I think that the university is making an effort: we are celebrating cooperation agreements the PUMS and the extension departments of conventional universities in Mexico already, and also Brazil and Argentina - Universities can also produce what we call  reverse extension is not to take the university out to extract knowledge but bring knowledge  from outside and return it inside, but it is not easy, but we continue in the fight

15 - ECOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE

[16/06/2017 19:17:31] Robyn (UK) Boaventura, I love the idea of an ecology of knowledges . I must say I have got nearer to valuing the knowledge of everyone I come across in my work with a Living theory approach. This is because I state my claim to be alongside and am willing to hear when I have got it wrong and am not being true to my claim (to be alongside). I am not perfect but I do claim to be working at respecting the self-determination and wellbeing of others  Boaventura, me encanta la idea de una ecología de los conocimientos.

Boaventura :  Robyn , i agree with you, I have to tell you that one of the limitations I mentioned this morning was precisely that  PAR in fact still implies, like the “pedagogy of the oppressed” of Paulo Freire, that there is an educated and educator , there is someone that brings knowledge, shares it , and still a vertical relationship , even though we are trying to do our best to eliminate it , even Orlando wanted to create a proper science, but in a sense was a single kind of knowledge and I don’t think it is possible these days - social movement produce very good knowledge for their own purposes and the instinct thing is bring the ecology of knowledge my anxiety is  why is the feminist movement are a so divided from indigenous movement ecological movement and then he human right movement - and the domination is very well integrated – capitalism colonialism and patriarchy are three heads of domination in our societies; domination is united; the oppressed are disunited -we have to move forward – that is why for me the next stage in IAP / PAR are the workshops of the PUSM ( popular university of social movements) an I hope in English speaking universities, we also can organize these workshops -I have to tell you usually I accept invitation of universities on the condition that we organize one of this workshop – why? because university can pay my trip , social movement cannot - am I want to be with the women and share with them anxieties  facilitate  am a rearguard intellectual, I don’t want to be vanguard, I learn a lot from the movements - i have been working and want to ground my life running risk, particularly in peace process in Colombia some risk we are taking - running risk principally today - that is our job - Boaventura: Robyn, estoy de acuerdo contigo, tengo que decirte que una de las limitaciones que mencioné esta mañana fue precisamente que el IAP de hecho todavía implica, como la "pedagogía de los oprimidos" de Paulo Freire, que hay un educado y Educador, hay alguien que aporta conocimiento, lo comparte, y todavía una relación vertical, aunque estamos tratando de hacer todo lo posible para eliminarlo, incluso Orlando quería crear una ciencia adecuada, pero en cierto sentido era un solo tipo de conocimiento Y no creo que sea posible en estos días - el movimiento social producir muy buen conocimiento para sus propios fines y el instinto es traer la ecología del conocimiento mi ansiedad es por qué es el movimiento feminista son un movimiento tan dividido ecológico movimiento ecológico y Entonces el movimiento del derecho humano - y la dominación está muy bien integrada - el capitalismo el colonialismo y el patriarcado son tres jefes de dominación en nuestras sociedades; La dominación está unida; Los oprimidos están disueltos -hay que seguir adelante- por eso para mí la siguiente etapa de IAP / PAR son los talleres de la PUSM (universidad popular de movimientos sociales) y espero que en las universidades de habla inglesa, también podamos organizar estos Talleres -Tengo que decirte por lo general que acepto la invitación de las universidades con la condición de que organicemos uno de este taller - ¿por qué?

16 - INTER COMUNICATION IN WORLD SOCIAL FORUM

[16/06/2017 19:18:55] Pierre (France): ( there is another input question above that one :-)) that you skipped

So the discussions in the social forum process remain active without consideration of money passport visa etc is a place to work and disseminate practices that impact on the divisions you mention

I totally agree, the problem was to create the idea that the social forum would have to be an international thing - it was a failure, the Montreal forum from my point of view, as you know 400 visas denied by Canadians To the movements of Asia Africa So to realize a counter hegemonic globalization, we have today to create many local and national forums where there are no visas, where there is not many cost, because if you are going to work with costs, comes an NGO that is going to Pay - but then obviously the terms of reference, they will boycott your activity, and will destroy insurgency insubordination insurgency rebellion - must continue at this level, please

[16/06/2017 19:21:25] Pierre (France): Boaventura, este momento de diálogo internacional de buena calidad que estamos teniendo no piensas que es una muestra del potencial de desarrollar en los movimientos sociales prácticas de inter comunicación a distancia como elemento contra hegemónico :-) Bonaventure, this moment of good quality international dialogue that we are having now is it not a sign of the potential to develop in social movement practices of remote inter communication As a counter -hegemonic element :-)

Boaventura :  absolutely –estamos aquí obviamente, se hace inter conocimiento claro, sería mucho mejor si movimientos estarían acá , en esta sala estarían también campesinos mujeres derechos humanas sería riquísimo -tener diferentes perspectivas problema aquí todos son académicos este el problema la potencialidad está ahí  absolutely - we are here obviously, it is made clear knowledge, it would be much better if movements would be here, in this room would be also peasants women human rights would be very rich - have different perspectives problem here all are academic this problem potentiality is there

17 - DEMOCRACIA PARTICIPATIVA

Un enorme abrazo  Boaventura, you said that in Latin America we are in the phase of defensive struggles. What role can Participatory Methodologies play in this moment and how do you see the future of participatory democracy in the region? A big hug

I think we are in a process of defensive struggles, because really the popular governments we had at the beginning of the decade - failed, are  with very neoliberal extractivist models, obviously with social redistribution - and increasingly stronger presence Of united states imperialism -a fundamental factor to understand what happens in Venezuela Brazil Colombia Argentina- defensive struggles are important for us to unite groups - I was in Cauca Popayán because there is so much mistrust between indigenous peoples and Afro descendants, land territory let us Agree, That is why this stage of PAR if it is - workshops of PUSM , because they come holders of knowledge totally autonomous to create inter knowledge about so that to eliminate suspicions, you know the prejudices that exist between actors - and even more in Colombia with the Guerrilla - still more is to eliminate a little that we are here - is useful and should continue for sure

I have written many times really that representative democracy is being kidnapped by the anti-democrats and it is not known how to defend, and we have to know that Hitler won elections not because of the blow he later made very clear - The presence of money silver party financing, etc. is kidnapped and lost the fight against capitalism, we have no other weapon, we have exceeded the limits of democracy and very judgment only with participatory democracy and, in some countries, democracy Community-that is another type of participatory democracy, the Bolivian constitution says that there are 3 forms of representative communitarian community democracy, then we have to raise, radicalize democracy to reach a society a democracy that is anti-capitalist anti-colonial anti-patriarchal - Because that which is capitalist colonial and patriarchal

[16/06/2017 19:28:34] Paulo ( Ecuador Chile): ¿y cómo podemos potenciar esas metodologías descolonizadoras, que no se encuentran en el canon incluso de las metodologías participativas más clásicas, aquellas que vienen de los pueblos y comunidades mismas? and how can we enhance these decolonization methodologies, which are not found in the canon even of the most classical participatory methodologies, those that come from the communities and communities themselves ?

18 - DESPOLITIZACION

And how much of our effort should be put in the transformation or the overflow of institutions? Is there not a risk that the participatory interventions will remain in interventions that are constrained to the community and that do not go to the explicitly political? How to make that transit? A hug from Chile.

Bonaventure: Victor if there are two transits that are necessary, transiting from academic to social, from community to the widest, and in fact much community work is transformed into something - depoliticized, you appreciate the community and somehow lose perspective Of the wider society - and you depoliticize in some way, your struggle, to take care, we are here to transform this community part, it is my idea - in UPMS when we finish workshop, we make press roll political declaration to bring political demands to the nation, One in Mozambique was women's ideas to transform their struggle, the struggle for land is for women, we enter there fight for the land is for women - fight against industrial agriculture that are expelling the peasants must do this politicize if ever!

19 LEARNED IGNORANTS

Boaventura :  Robyn precisely , the one thing I ask you : do not be too confident in your way of knowing , our purpose is to be learned ignorants ; we should be conscious of the limits of our knowledge sometime we are ignorant ignorants: we ignore that we ignore , trying to be “learned ignorants”” if you do that – your ways o knowing is precious and there are several other way of knowing and ecology of knowledge comes from within, some academic knowledge is important story now - we are involved in the struggle of agrotoxic products in agriculture pesticides insecticides s they are a venom – poisoning the peasants in brazil Argentina in many countries in africa - there is some science that is useful , it is not just we have the knowledge of the peasants there are – there are people in chemistry biology that are with us, many are with Monsanto those we do’tn care about them– they help us this is an ecology of knowledge scientific and the between various type of knowledge - we have to build on those ideas of ecology of knowledge sometimes  -Boaventura: Robyn precisamente, la única cosa que te pido: no seas demasiado confiado en tu manera de saber, nuestro propósito es ser ignorantes aprendidos; Debemos ser conscientes de los límites de nuestro conocimiento en algún momento somos ignorantes ignorantes: ignoramos que ignoramos, tratando de ser "ignorantes aprendidos" "si lo hace - tu forma de saber es preciosa y hay varias otras formas de saber y La ecología del conocimiento viene de dentro, un poco de conocimiento académico es una historia importante ahora - estamos involucrados en la lucha de productos agrotóxicos en la agricultura pesticidas insecticidas s son un veneno - envenenamiento de los campesinos en Brasil Argentina en muchos países en África - hay cierta ciencia Que es útil, no es justo que tengamos el conocimiento de los campesinos que hay - hay personas en biología química que están con nosotros, (muchas son con Monsanto que no nos interesan )- nos ayudan esto es una ecología del conocimiento scientiy Y la relación entre diversos tipos de conocimiento - tenemos que basarnos en esas ideas de ecología del conocimiento a veces

Maryam It is interesting/ I was working on PAR and we together re conceptualize about participation Es interesante / yo estaba trabajando en PAR y juntos re conceptualizar sobre la participación -

-

Boaventura : Maryam – that is precisely differently, in fact differently able people have been absent in our consideration very often, you are right there are - different people that suffer kinds of injustice and different kind of emancipation - one dominant form have been dominating all over-  excluded very much invisible -very often , you can look at this table today - all this room is much whiter than the previous day –it was much more colorful , because people do not have money to stay an extra day and go , that is why this is no global assembly today – I was talking with the organizers and they say there will be no decision - we have to bring more voices – that is why ecological diversity of the world is infinite- because exclusion people they are excluded e three are non being , or being with ontological degradation –as we say , they are human like the other, we know, but this is not enough , have to do something about that – thank you for note it is good - Maryam - que es precisamente diferente, de hecho, de otra manera diferentes personas han estado ausentes en nuestra consideración muy a menudo, usted tiene razón hay - diferentes personas que sufren tipos de injusticia y diferente tipo de emancipación - una forma dominante han sido dominar todo - excluido muy invisible - muy a menudo, se puede mirar a esta mesa hoy - todo este cuarto es mucho más blanco que el día anterior - era mucho más colorido, porque la gente no tiene dinero para quedarse un día extra e ir, eso es Por qué no se trata de una asamblea mundial de hoy - yo estaba hablando con los organizadores y dicen que no habrá decisión - tenemos que traer más voces - por eso la diversidad ecológica del mundo es infinita - porque las personas de exclusión que están excluidas e tres son No ser o estar con degradación ontológica -como decimos, son humanos como los otros, lo sabemos, pero esto no es suficiente, tienen que hacer algo al respecto- gracias por notar que es bueno

20 - SCIENCE

Tobin : An American physicist, man very smart he does not know so little , conscious recognition

Boaventura : The great physicist have been with us, they say social science are messy and so forth you take Heisenberg e - Einstein - I could only discover relativity asking question that only a child can make,  Feynman, Capra, Bateson –

Tobin - Book about bateson

Boaventura : I was very influenced I did a lot of internal critique, of the western epistemology because I studied sociology and philosophy in Germany I did what I called a the time internal critique of science  - complexity chaos all these people are important– now I think we have to move to other ways of knowledge, not just within the science , other ways of knowledge  Yo he estado muy influenciado hice mucha crítica interna, de la epistemología occidental porque estudié sociología y filosofía en Alemania hice lo que yo llamé el tiempo crítica interna de la ciencia - complejidad caos todas estas personas son importantes- ahora creo que tenemos que pasar a otras formas de conocimiento, no sólo dentro de la ciencia, otras formas de conocimiento

Tobin - Social construction - it critical mental heatlh , madness study

Boaventura : I know, you have to come to our center Tobin, we have a mental health group and we work with Brazilian that are very active, some of them our students at “anti manicomio” movement , (anti institution) very strong in brazil

[16/06/2017 21:54:46] Peter(cartagena/australia): Where are you based?

[16/06/2017 21:54:53] Pierre (France): in Paris) world social forum is a place where very diverse people meet. am a volunteer with caritas http://www.caritas.org/

[16/06/2017 21:59:01] Peter(cartagena/australia): Yes - that is great. Thank you. We have also placed the link in our networks. But our colleagues in Australia are all asleep!

[16/06/2017 22:01:02] Pierre (France): https://fsm2016.org/en/  social forum are firstly face to face meeting based on self-organized activities. That was the last big event - here is a calendar of events : http://openfsm.net/projects/wsf2012-support/wsf2017-calendar  given the diversity of PAR areas and actors - i guess those that are willing to promote PAR in broader circles can consider the world social forum process as a good place  Https://fsm2016.org/es/  social forum son, en primer lugar, una reunión cara a cara basada en actividades auto-organizadas.

[16/06/2017 22:08:59] Pierre (France): (you might ask José and Lonnie) no problem the world social forum process is both global and local for instance one month ago there was a pan amazonian social forum - there is a migration social forum etc -of course this is not addressing all dimensions of this meeting - this is just addressing the willingness to promote PAR in broader circles 16 (puede preguntar a José y Lonnie) no hay problema el proceso del foro social mundial es tanto global como local, por ejemplo, hace un mes hubo un pan foro social amazónico - Hay un foro social de migración, etc-por supuesto, esto no está abordando todas las dimensiones de esta reunión - esto es sólo la voluntad de promover IAP en círculos más amplios

[16/06/2017 22:10:44] Peter(cartagena/australia): Jose is just making an announcement Many of the discussions taking place do focus on participatory critical and collaborative approaches to inquiry and problem solving issues [José acaba de hacer un anuncio Muchas de las discusiones que se llevan a cabo se centran en enfoques participativos críticos y de colaboración para cuestiones de investigación y solución de problemas

[16/06/2017 22:12:47] Marie (UK): is this just about Action Research or is it about all values based research? Can I check again - is this about values-based practitioner research which includes PAR and Action Research and other forms of research? not wanting to cause discord just wondering as there are so many different understandings of participation, collaboration...sounds like you are having fun - wish I was with you - great - thanks for taking part for me too¿se trata de Investigación Activa o se trata de una investigación basada en los valores?

[16/06/2017 22:16:18] Peter(cartagena/Australia): you are right - there are very many different understandings about these big ideas - all shaped by our own historical and intellectual traditions - the key thing about what are trying to do is to learn about these big concepts and practices from one another. usted tiene razón - hay muchas diferentes comprensiones acerca de estas grandes ideas - todas formadas por nuestras propias tradiciones históricas e intelectuales - lo más importante de lo que son Tratar de hacer es aprender sobre estos grandes conceptos y prácticas de unos a otros.

29 - MORE NOTES

[16/06/2017 22:36:38] Peter(cartagena/australia): we also feel connected to Paris and Bath - so thank you

one of the great things about today and the lead up activities has been making a new path together - this reminds us of Paulo Freire's words" you make the path by walking" and this forum has enabled us to walk all over the world in one day. so thank you Una de las grandes cosas de hoy y de las actividades de preparación ha venido haciendo un nuevo camino, esto nos recuerda las palabras de Paulo Freire: "tú haces el camino caminando" y este foro nos ha permitido caminar por todo el mundo en un solo día . Así que gracias

We have turned the live feed to the main platform. The discussion will probably roam around the room but we will not keep moving the camera - it will be too difficult.

[16/06/2017 22:53:07] Peter(cartagena/australia): Multimodal presentations have been a way to value and respect the range of knowledge sharing practices that shape our world and our work... through music, through image, through voice, through virtual and actual spaces, through words, through translation, through multiple perspectives... we have entered a new platform for creating new inter subjective spaces  Las presentaciones multimodales han sido una forma de valorar y respetar la gama de prácticas de intercambio de conocimientos que conforman nuestro mundo y nuestro trabajo ... a través de la música, a través de la imagen , A través de la voz, a través de espacios virtuales y reales, a través de palabras, a través de la traducción, a través de múltiples perspectivas ... hemos entrado en una nueva plataforma para crear nuevos espacios inter subjetivos

As individuals and collectives at this gathering - that includes both those in this phsyical room but those in this virtual room - we have created a new communicative space - a space that was constituted by the action of participating.... this that in the end we seek to make things was more than dialogic it was passionate sensory and creative... we dared to imagine such a thing Como individuos y colectivos en esta reunión -que incluye tanto a los que están en esta sala clínica como a los que están en esta sala virtual- hemos creado un nuevo espacio comunicativo -un espacio que fue constituido por la acción de participar ... esto que al final Buscamos hacer las cosas era más que dialógico era pasional sensorial y creativo ... nos atrevíamos a imaginar tal cosa

These changed practice architectures we created as we all entered this day (and days) was: Estas arquitecturas de prácticas cambiadas que creamos cuando entramos en este día (y días) fue:

1) enabled and constrained by the cultural-discursive arrangements that were shaped through the languages and discourses we used, heard, understood, misunderstood and learnt - these influenced what was possible in semantic space; 1) habilitado y restringido por los arreglos cultural-discursivos que fueron moldeados a través de los lenguajes y discursos que usamos, escuchamos, comprendimos, entendemos mal y aprendimos - estos influyeron lo que era posible en el espacio semántico;

2) enabled and constrained by the material-economic arrangements that were shaped through the physical space in which we have met, the resources and the activities we shared with one another - these influenced what was possible in physical-space-time through the day; and 2) habilitado y restringido por los arreglos material-económicos que se formaron a través del espacio físico en el que nos encontramos, los recursos y las actividades que compartimos entre sí, influyeron en lo que era posible en el espacio físico a lo largo del día; y

3) social-political arrangements that were shaped by power, solidarity, agency and relationships - these influenced what was possible in the social space. These three kinds of spaces enabled us to try to come to some form of inter subjective meaning making.

We were all enabled in some ways but in other ways we were all constrained....yindyamarra - a wiradjuri word for respect (this is a particular Aboriginal community group in NSW Australia - one of 250 indigenous language communities) - a new respect for others by engaging with new stories, issues, languages and critical participatory action research projects different to our own Todos estábamos habilitados de alguna manera pero de otras maneras estábamos todos limitados .... yindyamarra - una palabra wiradjuri para el respeto (este es un grupo particular de la comunidad aborigen en NSW Australia - una de 250 comunidades de lengua indígena) - un nuevo respeto por Otros participando con nuevas historias, temas, lenguas y proyectos de investigación de acción participativa críticos diferentes a los nuestros

about the multiplicity of individual and collective acts, acting, activism and actions. Not about platitudes and glossing.. but about considering something we (as individuals and collectives of people and networks) can REALLY do - making the ontological a critical goal Sobre la multiplicidad de actos individuales, colectivos, de actuación, de activismo y de acciones.

[16/06/2017 23:40:11] Peter(cartagena/australia): intercultural and interdisciplinary and intergenerational and interlinguistic actions gained momentum today as people from every continent sat, listened, danced, spoke, typed, wrote, drew, played, ate, drank together..... we were truly nourished. As each of are shaped by our own historical and intellectual traditions the Global Assembly opened up new understandings of praxis. every conversation is "stepping into the unknown"las acciones interculturales e interdisciplinarias e intergeneracionales e interlingüísticas cobraron impulso hoy en día, mientras la gente de todos los continentes se sentaba, escuchaba, bailaba, hablaba, escribía, dibujaba, tocaba , Comimos, bebimos juntos ... fuimos verdaderamente nutridos.

[16/06/2017 23:53:08] Marie (UK): being able to see you and people in the room has made it more - sort of person human than just through typing but has its up sides too. I have wondered about how to progress multimedia conversations - this is the best I have seen so far - Many thanks ser capaz de verlo a ustedes ya la gente en la sala lo ha hecho más  tipo de persona humana que sólo a través de la mecanografía, pero tiene sus lados hacia arriba también. Me he preguntado sobre cómo progresar las conversaciones multimedia - este es el mejor que he visto hasta ahora - Muchas gracias

 31 GESTICULATED MOMENT ABOUT PAR

We had thought of something else - what I mean is that this has happened is excellent - blue shirt - sentimentante we take our methodology - that humans - we want to investigate the reality (gesture) see us here - as we removed official economist lenses - Feminist vision of high cradle - Greek and Roman -signos - a more complex vision where there are multiple actors as they see in this figurine - - like the inhabitants of a territory - we try as external actors a little from inside it costs to enter some we can get to teneos Multiple exits to enter network we can do several things we know that we are trying to leave trying to do the least possible damage from this perspective we have to have a vision of incidence but not incidence dry between public and political - we have 3 size little cow  goes to a demonstration, In the banner says "eat more chicken" public incidence so that they do not eat her - Change decisions - sometimes 7 environmental organizations in cities of the forest  stopped a dam, when the government comes with gifts to the children - and they say we are interested in the dam but then for there - if I am not consistent thank you very much

1h57mn o también compartir pensare finales, yo soy hijo de campesino crecido en el campo con mentalidad que somos menos y eso necesitamos echar a la hoguera para que se convierta en otra cosa compartir esperanza - sueno con que un día el campesino volverá a caminar digno - que nuestra hijas podrían ser libres - que nuestro padres puedan descansar en la tierra que nuestros hijos no tengan que desplazarse a ganarse la vida - que restauremos el desastre ecología que hemos hecho 1h57mn or also I'll share the final thoughts, I'm the son of a peasant grown in the countryside with a mentality that we are less and that we need to throw to the sewer so that it becomes another thing to share hope - I dream that one day the peasant will walk again worthy - That our daughters could be free - that our parents can rest on land that our children do not have to travel to make a living - that we restore the ecology disaster we have done

I support Tuesday and Wednesday due to bureaucratic issues - many are making an effort to make Orlando's work known - must be a great mystery for many here - another six months I decided the proposal to come here I would like to ask the leaders that these feelings reach a lot more people - many teachers know the trajectory - master's degree without knowing Orlando - change the lives of many peasants - I feel that this has changed my life and Can be done with more person to reach social justice so many years of attacking in the breast pacha - ends with all this ritual IAP - we are waiting from the first day - vicissitudes that were presented at the event -

33 - EVERYTHING HAS BEEN SAID ?

2h02mn José you have said all you needed to say ¿ esta bien asi ?

I greet this kind of spaces where we can share points of agreement and divergence on the thought of Falls and application of the method - beyond saluting between people who have applied it as transcending it to where the decisions are made - example as from peasants of The Andes networks with Camila - public policy by which - the state welcomed this form, joint communal action - that this type of accumulation of 50 years in Colombia - we can transcend it in practical ways in sectors of decision spaces - the government resorts To the academy to make inquiries - prior consultation - what is important is to make this methodologist aware is to transcend this type of proposal in other noden it changes people's lives - cousins are cousins because we know - the bet - transcend this concern for women environment To be materializable

2h06 siguiendo esta liana de la teoría de Orlando  - no solamente podemos hablar en esquema estatal - hayo mucho más que hacer fuera de esto , me quito el sombrero muchos que están fuera de la academia que tiene que hablar no solo nosotros  - Diana lo ponen en esquema de e - yo investigo la imputación de decisión en otros espacios - mucha gracias por estar aquí lo que ustedes representan 2h06 following this line of Orlando theory - not only can we talk in a state scheme - there is much more to do outside of this I remove the hat many who are outside the academy that has to speak not only us - Diana put it in scheme of E - I investigate the imputation of decision in other spaces - thank you very much for being here what you represent
