EVENT BRIEFING NOTE:

Following the successful participation of the representatives of the East African IAI and our partners at AFRICITIES VII held in South Africa and also after participation of our representative at the Meeting “Towards the Urban and Community Way to live well and responsibly on our planet” that was held in La Bergerie, Chaussy, France, 11-15th January 2016, as a follow up we proposed to organise a meeting in Nairobi Kenya hence this meeting.

The IAI Nairobi 2016 has been enabled by a joint coordination of the IAI Coordinator for Anglophone Africa and our local partners led by Bunge La Mwananchi and it brings together 40 representatives of social movements in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi for two days in Nairobi.

Hosted by moderators and resource persons, participants at the discussion forum will focus on:

1.Sharing recommendations from Africities and mobilize support for the recommendations

2.Strengthening the IAI East Africa structures

3.Developing East African common position towards the World Urban Social Forum and Habitat III to be held in Quito, Ecuador.

4.Developing and agreeing on an action plan for strengthening country IAI antennae in East Africa

5.Mobilizing people to push for an alternative Forum in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016

6.Developing Solidarity Campaigns against forceful evictions in East Africa

7.The International Tribunal on Evictions and explore possibilities of a regional Tribunal on evictions

8.Having the IAI Nairobi 2016 Meeting as WSF Preparation Forum and Extended Activity

9.Eviction Case Studies from Nairobi and Garissa in Kenya and Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania

10.Laws Governing Evictions with a focus of Kenya
