A POSSIBLE WORLD SOCIAL FORUM PROCESS GLOSSARY - among others possible - a work in progress involving Pierre

§ indicate terms which are in the glossary.

ACCESS TO THE PROCESS. Refers to the resources implied in participating : 1/ travelling to an § event location may imply having access to internet connectivity, getting visas in a world full of obstacles to travels, spending significant economic cost of travel and accommodation, having time availability, and is an extraordinary period for those not living in the region where the event is held, 2/ participating in an § extension dynamics around an event implies only having access to internet and pursuing everyday activism on local activities and can be combined with an ordinary agenda.

ACTIONS (TRANSFORMATIVE). § Activities in a § forum process are places and times for preparation of conditions of transformative actions and struggles held in the § public space of different countries by participating § organizations, both for resistance and promotion of alternatives. In activities they can present their § struggles and plans of action promoted under the form of § initiatives. § Open space ofForum processis a space friendly to transformative action and struggles , for their assessment, preparation,and planning.

ACTS-OPERATIONS.Operations made by participants in a forum § process to participate according to § forms of participation and facilitation proposed by the facilitating-organizing committee. Examples registration announcement of activities or initiatives, proposed § merger of activity, creating a self-directed § participation committee, take on a § facilitating mission; propose a § statement-declaration for signature etc.

AGGLUTINATIONOF ACTIVITIES. Self-organized operations between § preparers of activity to invite, or request to join the circle of co preparers of an activity, or § merge an activity into another. The agglutination reflects a certain level of commitment to cooperation, openness to dialogue, even § convergence. Notion of merging or agglutination of § initiatives maybe also considered.

AGORA OF EVENT PROCESS FACILITATORS-ORGANIZERS.Email list gathering as many as possible event facilitators organizers who have the hands on experience of faclitating an event-process.

AGORA OF INITIATIVES.Form of § commonfinalmoment of § Social Forum event, focused on § initiatives and allowing the assembling of § calendar or the initiatives, reinforced or emerged through § activities in this event-process, including diversity of § declarations and action plans issued from §convergence assemblies for action

ALTERNATIVE. A change, reform, project, new public policy, that is designed to transform part of the existing social reality,consistently with the § values expressed in the § charter. Alternatives and resistances are both needed in § struggles and § initiatives for § another possible world

ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE. Most known motto in WSF, expressing mental resistance to the hammered argument that there is no other way forward than weak democracy and strong neoliberal agenda shaping society

ATTRACTIVENESS OF THE WSF PROCESS. Notion that refers to actions for promoting, and ways to communicate the existence of WSF proess as a counter hegemonic process, growing horizontally, able to strengthen civil societies in their diversity of actions resisting political and economic powers that be.enfofcing neoliberal order, and promoting alternative§ initiatives towards another possible world. In many places, this process is not well known or may have not been implemented in an attractive way. Moreover, the § participation experience in social forum events and processes is difficult to convey. Local Self-organized § promotion Committees can take up the task to make the process visible and attractive by different groups.

AUTONOMY.In the § open space, § forms-ways of participation are proposed to persons and § organizations using thhose in an autonomous way along their § objectives of participation.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS PLACED IN WSF PROCESS § List of social forum events of significant size (at least a dozen self-organized § activities) and of other § events connecting to the WSF process. Such a calendar can be effectively maintained by a working group by the § WSF International Council.

CALENDAR OF INITIATIVES IN AN EVENT PROCESS.List containing the § initiatives promoted, strengthened or launched by § participating organizations in a social forum event-process, with their action plans and dates. § In the event-process, the calendar can be opened prior to the event and maintained in § post-event phase.

CENTERED LOCALIZATION OF A FORM FOR PARTICIPATION FACILITATION. Expression that shows that, within the frame of an § extension dynamics, a particular location is a center of a process and at the same time, is not where all the process takes place. A committee centered in the town of X means that the committee meetings usually take place in this city, while remote participants may be included. An event centered in the city of X means that activities can also take place outside the city.

CHARTER OF PRINCIPLES OF WSF. Two-page document drafted in 2001 and approved by the § WSF International Council. It explains in 14 Articles expliciting what is and what is not the World Social Forum and what are the § values and goals -§ objecitfs of its participants. The main principle is that no one is authorized to speak "on behalf of the WSF" which is a space and a process, not an organization.

CIVIL SOCIETY.In the context of the WSF, civil society participating in the WSF process can be defined as gathering of organizations, § outside political parties, organizations advocating violent action, local government, companies outside solidarity economy, public institutions (such as universities). It therefore includes civic and social § movements, NGOs, social economy companies.

COMMISSION & WORKING GROUP.These groups, created by §Organizing-facilitating Committee assist this committee by taking charge of § missions needed to facilitate the holding of the event etc.

COMMON MOMENT.Moment of an event, open to all § participants, the preparation of which is done by the organizing committee, such as the opening march or final moment § agora initiatives. Those moments are part of the § forms of participation in an § event

CONFERENCE.Activity in which one person shares his knowledge with the audience. A discussion period usually follows the presentation.

CONSULTATION.Act by which the § organizing-facilitating committee of an event-process consults existing or future § participants about their views on the § ways and forms of facilitation in the event-process,, or the concept note of the event.

CONTENTOF AN EVENT. What is said in its § activities related or not with § themes mentioned to give an idea of the future content.

CONVERGENCE ASSEMBLY.§ Activity § co-prepared by at least 5 organizations from 2 different continents (rule commonly practiced in a WSF and which may vary). § Participating or facilitating organizations in the assembly can put forward § initiatives with § action plans they are responsible for or are develop § statements that organizations that wish so may sign.

CONVERGENCE.Self organized search between participants of fields where a common vision is shared or where cooperation in action is possible around § activities co-prepared in the open space, and § common initiatives in the § public space. Convergence § assemblies and § self-managed participation committees are instruments to explore or demonstrate possible convergences.

CO-ORGANIZED (ACTIVITIES). Activities proposed by the facilitating-organizing committee in an event. See also major conferences.

"COUNTRY AND WSF" ( WELCOME CIRCLES AND LISTS). Online spaces for welcoming information and meeting proposed by the facilitating-organizing committee of a event process, with an § extension dynamic. These spaces are designed to inform about opportunities for § involvement in the process, including § placing of local activities in extension dynamics and remote participation in them. These spaces are distinct from the § local self-managed committees § for promotion of the process. They can be places of emergence of such committees.

DAVOS.Location in Switzerland of a yearly event organized by a company called “world economic forum” since 1971 which has been a major communicator and incubator about neoliberal global agenda. World “social” forum was initially conceived as a response to world “economic” forum that would show alternatives in actors, contents, and ways of organizing, and compete wiht "Davos" event in the international media agenda on Davos dates ( end of January). Logistical reasons have kept several events out of Davos dates and the attractiveness of WSF for big media remains problematic in essence, and in ideology, and needs to be rebuilt at each event.

DECISION BY CONSENT-CONSENSUS.This decision mechanism is used in the collective operation for the § facilitation-organization of a process: a prerequisite is the definition of a "decision making group", within which the decision will be made. A decision is valid if the person or organization who does not agree with the decision are consenting to it. Other options being to postpone the decision, or the disagreeing person or organization leaving the process. § Committees commissions § Working Group define by consensus the rules of definition of "decision making groups" within them.

DECLARATION.A specific form of § initiative : a text signed by organizations participating in a § convergence assembly or another type of § activity, and placed on the § calendar of initiatives on the date of the activity. A declaration can be proposed to be signed by Supportive participants and beyond by the general public. A declaration may describe a plan of action and mention other § initiatives.

DEEPENING OF THE WSF PROCESS.Notion that relates to the quality of the process, a better understanding of the process by its participants, with an ever broader inclusion of citizens and organizations in the process, assimilation of practices foreshadowing another possible world, development of capabilities of dialogue and cooperation for joint actions widely shared on many fronts of struggle against the neoliberal system and other dominations, with visible effects on social environmental and political situation.

DIVERSITY.People and organizations that recognize themselves as § participants as described in the § Charter principles show a great diversity of cultures, objectives, modes of thought and action in diverse “public spaces”. Another possible world is built with and through this diversity. Diversity comes to be a § value in the social forum.

DOCUMENTATION.See § self documentation.

EMPLOYEES.Possible employees of a facilitating-organizing Committee, or employees made availabe by an organization contributing to the committee, are recruited on the basis of their "availability motivation reliability-experience" and are at service of the§ committee and volunteers. The committee allocates organizing-facilitating § missions, between as many as possible § volunteers according to the criteria "availability- experience- reliability-motivation." In addition to their role of support, employees take charge of tasks requiring high "availability / reliability" and appearing not allocable to several volunteers working cooperation. A principle can be "Employees should not substitute volunteers wherever volunteers can perform the tasks"

ENLARGEMENT OF AN ACTIVITY ON THE INTERNET.Technical acts-operation (such as handinlg a chat room or livestreaming ) made by the organizers of an activity, with possible support of the organizing committee of the event-process in which the activity is placed. through these operations remote participation in this activity is made possible for participants in the process-events that are not "on site" where the activvity is held.

EVALUATION OF AN EVENT PROCESS BY ITS PARTICIPANTS.§ Consultation of participants by facilitating-organizing committee, to know their assessment of what their § participation in this event has brought about. In addition, participants can make assessments in various ways - public Articles, reports etc

EVENT CONNECTING TO WSF PROCESS.Event proposed by an organizing committee which, without using the WSF charter of principles as its event organizing reference, finds relevant to place somehow publicly, this event in the WSF calendar.

EVENT PROCESS OF SPECIFIC SOCIAL FORUM.All acts-operations of § facilitation- organization and participation during 3 § phases-stages around an event : pre-event phase or phase of preparation, § event itself, and post event stage or follow up phase.

EXPANSION.Development of forum process awareness, practice, ownership, in new geographic or thematic areas.

EXTENSION DYNAMIC AROUND AN EVENT.Collection of acts-operations of 1/ § placing § local activity around an event date and 2/ § enlarging activities on the internet, thus opening them to remote participation/ Extension dynamics is a collective practice proposed by § facilitating-organizing committee allowing people and organizations wishing to participate in an event process, to do it also from where they are, and act on a daily basis for another possible world. Extension dynamic is a form o participation part of the § methodology § an event process.

EXTENSION.Decision by the § Organizing Committee of an event to promote an § extension dynamics among the participants in this event-process, combining two practices 1 / § the placing in the event-process of § local activities decentralized in time and space in relation to the center event and 2 / the § enlarging online of activities self organized by their § preparers, thus opening those to remote participation.

FACILITATING-ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF AN EVENT-PROCESS.§ Informal group of people and or organizations, which may be backed by an adhoc non-profit legal entity, and supported by a larger circle of civil society § organizations, taking the initiative and responsibility to build and animate an event-process and to organize the event § regularly consulting its participants.

FACILITATING-ORGANIZINGCOMMITTEE OF A SOCIAL FORUM EVENT PROCESS. Committee specifically endeavoring facilitation-organization of an event-process in the spirit and form of the § charter principles, and drawing on § guiding principles of organization of a WSF. This committee defines its inclusion and decision protocols, and the § commissions and working groups necessary to complete the required facilitating organizing § missions. Its legitimacy is measured by the support it gathers explicit or implicit (via the act of § consultation or § participation or § facilitation) among the organizations from the § civil society likely to be interested by this event -process.

FACILITATION-ORGANIZATION.§ Acts-operations of participants in an event-process: (organizers-facilitators or volunteers are also participants) who wish to create and organize this event-process in its various § phases and materialize an attractive § open space, consistent with the § principles and promises in § the Charter and other § Guiding principles. In the context of an event-process organization and facilitation are related operations - the organization is "facilitating" , insofar as it aims to facilitate the § autonomous action of participants in the § open space, and to encourage practices of voluntary cooperative participation § foreshadowing other ways of relating than "employee reporting relationship" and "competition of all against all". Facilitation-organization is performed through § assignments distributed to § volunteers and potential § employees by the § facilitating-organizing committee.

FINAL DECLARATION.The charter of principles excludes the notion of final declaration as follows:The participants in the Forum shall not be called on to take decisions as a body, whether by vote or acclamation, on declarations or proposals for action that would commit all, or the majority, of them and that propose to be taken as establishing positions of the Forum as a body.Facilitating-organizing § committees of social forums, including the § thematic social forums, are encouraged to find forms of final § moment that both make visible the one or varied convergence dynamic , existing in the § open space, and remain consistent with this principle.

FORESHADOWING.The open space and concretely the § social territory of an event-process are areas or various cooperative practices foreshadowing another possible world.

FORM- WAY OF FACILITATION-ORGANIZATION.Forms defined by the organizing-facilitating committee, through which participants can also become § volunteers or § salaried, facilitators-organizers of the event-process, and of course, of § the event itself. Most current forms are commissions § working groups, § facilitating-organizing missions.

FORMAT OF AN ACTIVITY sees forms of participation.

FORM-WAY OF PARTICIPATION.Form defined by the Organizing-facilitating Committee, that are available to participants in the open space for inter communication: Most current forms are : Booth handling, § activities by a wide variety of formats more or less participatory, § convergence assemblies; § Self managed participation Committee, § initiative promotion group.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR THE ORGANIZATION O F AN EVENT.Principles of the Charter defines the” what”, the guiding principles explain the “ how”, from the accumulated experience of WSF events. Longer page document approved in version 1 in 2008 by the § International Council.

HORIZONTALITY.Absence of hierarchical relationship between participants in the open meeting spaces in the forum process and among those forum processes themselves. Horizontality is consistent with the § autonomy of the participants. Inter forum process relations are developed horizontally via the participants who come to § place activities in different processes, or are involved in activities placed in various processes. Relationships between § facilitating committees from different processes are not forms of representation of a process by another process.

INCLUSION.The process of an § event is inclusive, in the sense that participation is open to all individuals and organizations with an information on the § charter of principles and behavior expected in the open space, consistent with certain values and openness to dialogue. Any organization that considers itself participant in the process, as described by its charter is welcome to § prepare activities and § promote initiatives. The Missions and forms for organizing-facilitating are open to § participants who want to contribute with responsibility and reliability. § The organizing-facilitating Committee examines cases of participation of organizations, the action of which appears in whole or in part inconsistent with it the § values of the charter, or provoke protests from other § participants. It may refuse programming of certain § activities.

INITIATIVE.Announcement of actions in the § public space of one or more countries, promoted by § participating organizations in the event website of an event-process. The annoucement mentions at least one § activity in the event process where the initiative is presented and discussed, Organizations § promoting initiative may be invited to § present it in other activities without this necessarily meaning that preparers of those activities support this initiative. § A statement -declaraton is a simple form of initiative. Initiatives have generally an action plan with dates and are gathered in a § calendar of initiatives linked to an event.

INTERCOMMUNICATION.Main function of the WSF process, which is to foster, in the § open space, communication and dialogue, between the participating organizations (mutual acknowledgement, cooperation, convergence for joint action), and between people (information, encounter, reflection, personal growth).

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF WSF.Body bringing together about 50 international networks of § civil society, who approved the WSF charter of principles. Its function is to facilitate the § expansion and § deepening of the overall forum process of creating § open spaces along this charter in the world, and the § process of the WSF events. It validates in particular the most relevant time and place of these WSF events among proposals, made by potential organizing facilitating committees.

INVITATION.A facilitation-organization committee of a forum process or event, invites confirmed or potential § participants in this process to make voluntary acts-operations of § participation or § facilitation in the § open space of this process

INVOLVEMENT IN A PROCESS.See § facilitation and § participation.

KIOSK-BOOTH.Presentation space of an organization during an event, that it can rent from the organizing committee,

LEGITIMACY OF FACILITATORS.The legitimacy of a given § committe to facilitate-organize a social forum process or event is manifested by the acceptance and recognition of this role by potential participants in the process, present in the geographical or thematic area where it is proposed. It is first founded by taking the initiative fr starting-building, and showing the ability to bring together process launch conditions. It is then nurtured by the ability to schedule and fulfill, in effective and relevant manner, § facilitation missions, consistent with the § principles and § values of the social forum, to create the § open space of the forum process in all its dimensions, to include the § volunteers manifested among § participants, to meet reasonable expectations of the participants, and to deal with the unexpected. According to the § charter of principles, legitimacy of facilitating a process does not confer "political" legitimacy to “represent” the participants in this process.

LOCAL-DECENTRALIZED.Refers to § forms of participation or facilitation that are § centered outside the event § social Territory and the facilitating organizing Committee Examples: Local activity, self-managed local participation or promotion committee, local participation, local volunteer. An activity in the city of the event before or after this one is a local activity.

LOCAL-PROXIMITY.Refers to the scale of a social forum process, where it gathers participants who are in a geographic proximity together- with easy access to face to face encounters.

MAJOR CONFERENCES.Activities with § conference or panel format, or with others more creative format, addressing a potentially wide audience in the late afternoon, in the city where the § event is held. Their function is to attract § media and public attention to the event. Their number and content can be co-defined by the organizing committee, with support by groups of organizations.

MERGINGBETWEEN ACTIVITIES OR INITIATIVES,See agglutination of activities.

META FACILITATION.Rules agreed in the facilitating-organizing committee of a forum process/event, about the way to operate, organize meetings and make decisions.

METHODOLOGY.All § forms of participation and § forms of facilitation- organization defined by the facilitating-organizing Committee for a given § forum process. There is a common methodological background described in the § charter of principle and § guiding principles for the organization of a WSF event, and there is room for innovation. The WSF international council is the place where to formulate guiding principles and experience about methodology

MISSIONS OF FACILITATION-ORGANIZATION.Missions to carry on for the success of a process/event . They are developed and combined in facilitation-organization § committee, § commissions and working groups of this process. They may be taken charge of , as a first option by§ volunteeringparticipants , and t is a driver for capacity building and ownership of the process by event participants) or else hey can be entrusted to § employees.

MOVEMENTS.See organizations.

OBJECTIVE OF PARTICIPATION.Those that § organizations or individuals involved in an § event-process, set for themselves in relation to their general expectations and goals. They try to meet those objectives through § forms of participation they choose to implement, among those available in § the event process § methodology.

OPEN SPACE.Overall concept of the Social Forum: the § organizations showing to consider themselves “participating instances” in the WSF process, as outlined by the § WSF Charter of principles, can come to meet with others in a common physical or online,space,There they can co prepare and hold under their responsibility, various § "intercommunication activities" and co-promote§ Initiatives of transformative action.

ORGANIZATION.Collective entity, formal or informal, participating in the § open space of the WSF. These are the actors of § civil society (not including party, local government, or companies outside social economy), capable of assuming § transformative action in § public space, towards another possible world. Organisations can step in, or support, the facilitating-organizing committees, prepare § activities or promote initiatives §. form committees

ORGANIZATION-FACILITATION.See § facilitation-organization.

OWNERSHIP

PANEL ROUNDTABLE.§ Activity during which several people in turn share their knowledge with the audience. A discussion period usually follows the presentations.

PARTICIPANT.Person or organization that comes into the § open space to take part in § activities and § common moments or § prepare activities and § promote initiatives. There are no prerequisites for the participation of people.§ Preparing activity is reserved for § organizations of all types with the prerequisite to publicly consider itself a “participating instance” in the WSF process, as defined by its § charter.

PARTICIPATION IN AN ACTIVITY.Participation can be “In proximity”, or “remote”, when the activity is § enlarged on internet. The § format of the activity, chosen by its § preparers, allows more or less distributed and participatory § intercommunication between its participants.

PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCESS.Acts and ways in which the participants § intercommunicate, with their own words into the § open space of the forum. 1/ § Preparing activity and convergence assembly, and or simple interventions therein, 2/ promoting initiatives § (including § statements-declarations made on behalf of an explicit list of organizations or people) and support for them, performing agglutination operations, 3/ managing § self-managed participation committees. Participation and facilitation are two sides of the involvement of a person or organization in the WSF.

PARTICIPATORY

PERFORMANCE (ARTISTIC-CULTURAL).Self organized Activity, in which an artist or artistic collective presents to the participants a performance or creation to make sense of the open space, arouse questioning, inspiration and creativity. Cooperation between artists and organizations or committees are welcome in the self organized § activities. Performers are invited to get involved In § Commissions and or contribute to artistic cultural dimension of § Common moments.

PLACING OF LOCAL ACTIVITY IN EXTENSION DYNAMICS OF AN EVENT.Decision by the organizers of a public or semi public meeting, held outside the location of this event, to place it as § local activity in § extension dynamics of this event-process. This makes the meeting visible and includes it in the § program of the event-process. The placing is a "political" act of contribution to the § general WSF process in one’s country and one’s region.

POSITION STATEMENT BY COMMITTEES IN PUBLIC.The committeesfacilitating-organizingsocial forum event or processes areentitled to take public positions on issues directly relating to the organization-facilitation of t"heir" process. They have no legitimacy to take position on other issues "as a committee", which would be ambiguous, or overtly contradictory, with the principles of the forum § charter.

POST EVENT.Phase of the event-process after the end of the event itself, during which the § facilitating-organizing committee particularly encourages; among participants, such § paticipating acts-operation as § self-documentation of activities, announcement and updating of § initiatives placed in the social calendar of the event, collecting § support of expression in § initiatives.

PREPARATION OF ACTIVITY.Taking charge of an activity between one or more "co-preparers" organizations, designing its content, its format, its logistics, its animation, its participatory character, circulate invitations, ensuring its § self-documentation , organizaing local post event meetings etc.

PRINCIPLES.Principles of organization of a "process-event" emanate mainly from two documents the § WSF Charter of principles and § Guiding principles for organization of a WSF event. Example for participation: horizontal open space, position assumed in own name, intercommunication on a voluntary basis, Example for facilitation: access to contribute to facilitation,. decision by consent on facilitating options, highlighting of the participants' initiatives.

PROCESS OF STRUGGLES AND TRANSFORMATIVE PROJECT.Ways through which struggles and actions of social change worldwide develop and interconnect. Actors in this process are the § organizations and social and citizen § movements who decide whether or not to participate in various social forums § processes, an events, seen as § tools to develop and interconnect their struggles and actions.

PROCESS OF WSF EVENTS.All acts of § facilitation and participation on the series of WSF events location of which is validated among existing proposals, by the International Council. With a focus on what is happening in between the successive event-processes.

PROCESS: WSF PROCESS IN GENERAL.All acts of § facilitation and participation related to the social-forum process events of various scales and nature, and to events that are placed in § WSF calendar by their organizers.. With a focus on what is happening in between the successive event-processes.

PROCESS.Sequence of acts made by actors with some common meaning. The word “process” comes from the Latin pro (in the sense of "forward") and cessus, cedere ( "go, walk"), which therefore means going forward, advancing. We are led to distinguish the § process of a specific social forum event, the § process of a specific forum, as a sequence of similar events, the § general WSF process in general and the § process of social and environmental struggles of which certain actors are participants in the first three processes.

PROGRAMME OF AN EVENT PROCESS.All activities announced in § open space of this event The confirmed version of the program indicates the location and time of activities with 3 facets "event" (activities in the territory of the center event), 'local' other activities,( decentralized in time and space), "activities accessible remotely.”. whether central or local

PROGRAMMING OF AN EVENT.Act of facilitation- organization of defining the rules of distribution of § activities in the social territory (eg creating or not thematic area), allocate § spaces to self-managed § participation committee, avoid silos providing some thematic diversity, reduce number of activities having a similar content by suggesting § agglutinations, give time to § convergence assemblies,, try to respect, inasmuch possible, the wishes of activity preparers for the day and hour thereof, § clarify the common moments.

PROMOTING AN INITIATIVE.Undertake, between one or more organizations, an § initiative, describing its action plan, § presenting it in an activity of theevent process, enrolling it in § this event social § calendar, gathering support among the participants.

PUBLIC DEMOCRATIC.SPACE.Area of freedom of expression and autonomy from powers that be available to § organizations in the § civil society of a country, to speak out and act nonviolently according to § social transformation initiatives, that they are invited to announce and promote as § participants in the § open space of the forum. Nature and size is of public space is variable depending on the country and its social and political history.

RESOURCES.These are mainly: the time and talents of § volunteers and § employees, and logistical resources of § organizations involved in facilitating-organizing. Voluntary contributions on the internet entry fees for participants, inkind , logistical and financial contributions from organizations.

RESULTS.The results of an § event-process, in terms of participation and intercommunication, initiatives strengthening, and convergence building etc..are assessed according to § objectives of participants and of facilitators-organizers. The logistical and methodological figures produced from the § acts of participants in § website are factual indications , § evaluation of participants, and the results then can be interpreted.

RULES AND PROTOCOLS FOR INCLUSION AND DECISION.Rules set around entry into a group and decision making in this group.

SELF MANAGED EVENT-PROCESS PROMOTIONCOMMITTEE.Acts in conjunction with § facilitating-organizing committee of an event-process in order to promote, in a given geographical or thematic area, participation in this event. In some event processes, it may be appropriate to invite to the creation of these committees, without them having exclusivity in this area, or representing the faclitating-organizing commitee..

(SELF MANAGED EVENT PROCESS)

SELF MANAGED EVENT PROCESS PARTICIPATIONCOMMITTEE. Group established between participating organizations to prepare in consultation § a set of activities in the program of an event, and animate a permanent § space in the § social territory of event the latter. It is a way to support a process of dialogue and exchange, around objectives shared by the co-facilitating organizations of this Committee (build a network, launch or strengthen § transformation initiatives, hold a summer University, make visible the participation from a region). This is one of the most ambitious forms of participation in §an event-process.

SELF MANAGED SET OF ACTIVITIES.Group of § activities whose respective § preparers cooperate in the same § Self managed participation Committee, and may offer participants a more ambitious intercom or convergence dynamic than within reach through permitted under a single activity.

(SELF ORGANIZED)

SELF ORGANIZED ACTIVITY.Moments of intercommunication, lasting two to three hours in general,that one or more § organizations § prepare together, register as part of the § program of an event- process, and offer to § participants, defining the subject, the format, the animation technique etc. Main forms of activities are: § workshop, § panel §conference § convergence assemblies § performance art.

SOCIAL FORUM EVENT (SPECIFIC) .Concentration of § activities in time and space, invited and welcomed by a facilitating-organizing committee along a methodology referring to the WSF § Charter of Principles and allowing to visualize see and experience § "open space". This event is located at the center, in time and space, of a § event-process. It is placed by is organizing committee in § WSF events calendar that shows a view of § WSF process in general.

SOCIAL FORUM PROCESS (SPECIFIC): All acts-operations PROCESS: All acts of § facilitation and § participation in a sequence of event- process of succession facilitated-organized in continuity within on a thematic or igeorgraphical area in a territory, and integrating into the WSF process in general, with a reference to the charter of principles. With a focus on what is happening in between the successive event-processes.

SOCIAL TERRITORY.Venue-area where the center event of an event-process is held : rooms or spaces for activities and booths for organizations and spaces for the § common moments (opening march, Agora initiatives, closing party etc.). This territory can also exist on line ( websites and social networ spaces. It can aslo exist locally, outside the central location of the event, place of the event if there is a certain concentration of § local activities coordinated by a self-managed participation committee coordinating a § set self-organized activities.

SPACE: § Physical location in the § social territory allotted permanently during the event by the § facilitating-organizing committee to a group of organizations co animating a self-managed § set of activities. It allows the group to have a collective informal intecommunication life and visibility during the event - it hosts some of the activities of the Self-managed participation committee, but not all if possible, all, in order to avoid the formation of “silos”. Allocation of such spaces is a preliminary step in the programming of the event.

THEMATIC (SOCIAL FORUM). THEMES.Lists of questions or themes, proposed by the organizing-facilitating § committee, possibly § organizing committee, possibly consulting future participants. It role is to give an idea to potential partifcipants of the possible of the content of self-organized activities of the event-process . of which participating organizations will define the actual content of teh event through the activities actually programmed, and themes are an indicatin. programmed. TOOL.Social forum process is not a new type of organization it is a space and a tool, both for those who take the initiative to launch a process event, and for those who decide to participate in it

VALUES SHARED BY WSF PROCESS PARTICIPANTS As per § Charter participating instances and movements (article 1) are opposed to neo-liberalism and to domination of the world by capital and any form of imperialism, and are committed to building a planetary society directed towards fruitful relationships among Humankind and between it and the Earth.
The § alternatives / § initiatives promoted (article 4) wish to ensure globalization in solidarity will prevail as a new stage in world history. This stage will respect universal human rights, and those of all citizens - men and women - of all nations and the environment and will rest on democratic international systems and institutions at the service of social justice, equality and the sovereignty of peoples.
