:Rania presents the many difficulties and hindrances in building peace and justice in Iraq following the dictatorship and American invasion of the country.

19/02/18, 19:42 - Extension WSF FSM Pierro: Now making a pause in drivingListening to ismael

Next speaker is Ismaael Dawood from Un Ponte Per and ISF. Ismaeel is an Iraqi human right activist heavily engaged in campaigning for human rights and democracy in Iraq.War can not be a solution. We are less secure now than before. We refuse to chose between dictatorship and bombing. We choose the different way, against both secterianism, dictatorship and war. Instead we choose to build peace and trust between people. The story of the Iraqi Social Forum is a story of youths gathering in Bagdad, for peace and another Iraq

19/02/18, 19:46 - Albert :Next speaker out is Ali Sahib, coordinator for Iraqi Social Forum

What is the Iraqi Social Forum and its role in Iraq? We are trying to create a new mechanism for the civil society in Iraq. To create a space for people to meet and work together in Iraq. The space will be open for anyone to meet an work together. We benefit from the experiences of the Social forums internationally. After years of work we reached the goal of establishing the Iraqi Social Forum. The dream came true when we organized events in three different areas, with help of international friends. We organized and cultural open space activity for the forum. 1500 people attended the event. it gave is the inspiration moving forward, when we saw the excitement among people for what we were trying to do

we also had challenges and problems in Iraqi society around the time of the founding, in 2013:The issues facing us are enormous and makes the Social Forum necessary. The identity of our form is the invite in and let everyone participate. We believe in non-violence and activily use it in our work.we depend on it. voluntarism and no big money spending is another of our principles. we also believe in sharing the democracy. There are no leaders and followers. Every participant in the forum is equal. Their part depend on what they contribute and participate. We believe the civil society should be a central part of policy making, not some supplementary side-project.We believe in the role of international solidarty. We depend on it, in the same way that other social movements do.We used our principles actively moving forward

19/02/18, 19:57 - Extension WSF FSM Pierro: Thanks for notes Albert

19/02/18, 19:58 - Albert :The many Paths reflect a diversity of struggles.Organisng of womens rights is one Freedom of expression is another. The third part is the path of the Workers.Social and Economical Rights Path:The water and environmental issues are also very important for us. Unfortunatly the is too little awareness around these issues in Iraq today. So it is important to mobilize around them. We also work activily with peacebuilding as a Path and use non-violence actively as a tool and principle.Young people are important for our work. We have many specialist teams working with youth issues. For example Sport against Violence. Organizing the third Bagdad Marathon this year.We are now moving to expand to more Iraqi cities and are now active in 8 Iraqi cities. We work actively to increase solidairty and common intrests in the Iraqi population. Our mission is not easy, but also not impossible. With solidarity and cooperation we can build another Iraq

19/02/18, 20:06 - Albert :Thank you very much for listening and letting me eat the Iraqi food! You are all invited to the 5th Iraqi Social Forum this year!

:The next speaker is Ruaa Khalaf, from Women's Trade Union Forum. Khalaf is active in the struggle for Social, Economic and Womens rights and in promoting unionizing among women! The union is accredited by the ITUC.:The Iraqi Social Forum contains all the Unions i Iraq, trade and academics. We are working for workers rights for both men and women. We do this because before and after the war in 2003 we have no rights. We are working to empower the woman worker, to let her know her rights and protect her against harrassement at work. We activly promote womens role in the unions and have better and better results with high ranking union officals as women, more and more.We organize workers demonstrations in Bagdad. We organize conferences on social insurance and child labour. We have teams that monitor the progress on the resolutions from our conference.:They work specifically with women and youth in the unions. The second team is the legal team Who secifically work to monitor legal rights at the work place. We also organize the Women Union Forum:It contains younger women in the unions. It is a very important job, to activate the womens role in the unions. We are living in a male dominated socitey, and we need to strenghten the women against harassement at work!We are still a new forum and hope we leave a footprint on on the labour movement

19/02/18, 20:14 - Extension WSF FSM Pierro: now finally at home  and able to participate in good conditions  sound is excellent https://www.facebook.com/NorgesSosialeForum/videos/1466653620110790/

http://openfsm.net/projects/norway-and-wsf/norwayandwsf-act460-how-to-build-peace-and-democracy-in-iraq-views-from-iraq-social-forum

19/02/18, 20:18 - Albert :Thank you!

19/02/18, 20:19 - Albert :The next speaker is Jinan Sliwo Yokhnna, from Ashur, an organization for women's rights She works for increasing the participation of women in decicion making processes.Iraq has gone through a lot of wars, the Daesh war being only the last.We also know that women are the part of the community that suffer most from the consequences from these wars.Thats why it is extra important to work towards womens rights i nIraq. We are one of the leading groups working on womens issues in Iraq. Our Path succeded in recruiting young people, by breaking down stereotypes and traditional gender roles. Our vision is the to activate women, politically an socially. We do this by reaching out to minorities and women. also by doing workshops and lifting up women who have an active role in society. We organize social gatherings, such as tea parties, to exchanges individual stories and expiriences. We also participated to the Marathon in Mosul and to speak to the women of Mosul.Thank you, and have a good night

19/02/18, 20:27 - Albert :Ole: We are all impressed by the work of the ISF.The next speaker is from the non-violence and peace Path,His name is Ali Bakht Al-Tamimi. He is from both the Ofok Organization and La Onf group.

:The Iraqi society has faces lots of violence and is full of weapons. It is hard to work within such a society. But young people have found the perfect space to work together in the Iraqi Social Forum. In our Path we work in two different way: Towards decition-makers, and with awareness raising towards peace. Our path has three different teams Sports against Violences.Art to build Peace:We use different methods of activity Depending on the different circumstances

We for example organized the marathon in Mosul right after the liberation of the city from Daesh.Such activities as the one in Mosul, we also organized in different cities They are important in a society such as the Iraqi one. We try to promote diversity It has old roots and is important to preserve through culture. Politicians try to use diversity to put people up against each other:We try and to the opposite, to bring people together, thrpugh cultureAnd art

19/02/18, 20:35 - Tyler Norway: haha.  What happened?  What made everyone laugh so hard?  I somehow missed it!

19/02/18, 20:36 - Albert :--- slight transelation difficulties ;) ----

19/02/18, 20:36 - Extension WSF FSM Pierro: Hello gershom

19/02/18, 20:37 - Extension WSF FSM Pierro: http://openfsm.net/projects/norway-and-wsf/norwayandwsf-act460-how-to-build-peace-and-democracy-in-iraq-views-from-iraq-social-forum

19/02/18, 20:38 - Albert :We organized an event against the use of chemical weapons, using the symbol of Apples, from the smell of the gas.We organize lots of different activities to raise awareness. To protect diversity and prevent discrimination. We also push for the inclusion of the principles of non-violence in the educational system

19/02/18, 20:40 - Albert :the last speaker is from the Save the Tigris Campaign and water activism. His name is Ali Basim and is the coordinator for the campaign.Everyone should come to our session at the University of Oslo tomorrow. In a country like Iraq, full of conflict, it is hard to find space and priority to talk about the environmental issues. But environmental issues are crucial in Iraq and should be at the top of the list of priorities. We need everyone to join in the struggle.I want to talk about the water in Iraq. There is a long story of water and conflict over water in the region. The Tigris and Eurfat has shaped the country, since everything in Iraq has depended on it historically. Both Iran and Turkey has had projects for controlling the water flows.During the difficult war period in the 90s these projects intesivated. The project on the Tigris contains a series of dams.Iran did the same by cutting the contributory rivers from Iran to the Tigris. This was done to contral Iraq politically and economically. This was also done by Daesh by trying to cut of water from the southern part of Iraq.:Iraqi politicians dont believe water is important to find unity on:but recently they have changed their minds because of droughts. Now we have the oppurtunity to push for an responsible plan for water management.Come to the event tomorrow, thank you!

19/02/18, 20:49 - Tyler Norway: Glad to see you here, Gershom, from Zambia's Social Forum!

19/02/18, 20:50 - Gershom : Watching you from Zambia. I witnessed some of those social and economic issues last time when I was in Baghdad In 2015. Long live to international solidarity

19/02/18, 20:49 - Albert :The next speaker is Liv Torres:She is the director of the Nobel Peace Centre and previous organizer for the Norwegian Peoples Aid.Being a civil society activist in Iraq is no easy job. It is heavy, dangerous and takes a hell of a lot of courage!I will make a few comments based on my observations here tonight and working with civil socity leaders.five points that i think are very important for peace building:

1. The risk is very high of conflict coming back if certain groups are marginalized.

2. We need to do something about growing inequalities between the elites and the rest. Unless we will have social anger, unrest and conflict:Even the World Economic Forum is realizing that people are starting to get anger.

:3. Women are agents and ambassadors for peace building. They are tripple oppressed: From instituions, workplace and in the home.We have to organize and fight, not just ask for cencessions

4. Peace building only happens bottom-up

5. Civil society is the crucial base for everything the important part is organizations that does mass mobilization

19/02/18, 20:55 - Gershom : Need to work around root cause of today present order into to counter today's challenges people are faced with... Galvanize the people of people to create  change is the only present way to  take.... Create critical mass: Infact people need to be properly empowered enlightened and networked in order to create a desirable change that we want Globally

https://www.facebook.com/NorgesSosialeForum/videos/1466653620110790/

The struggle against the Apartheid regime I was involved in showed that change only come from mass mobilization and not from political leaders alone. My dime is on the bet that you in the ISF will recieve international solidarity in your struggles. Good luck and good bye!

19/02/18, 21:00 - Tyler Norway: GREAT updates, Albert!   Thank you - the stream turned out great.

19/02/18, 21:00 - Albert :Ole is presenting the rest of this weeks programme and wrapping up the programme :I will be going AFK for delicious Iraqi food pretty soon. Thank you and good night : D
