What is a space in OpenFSM ?

It is like a small independent website, next to many other ones
Each space gather a team of people and has

-a Blog,
- (“pages”) a collaborative editing space , with history of inputs by team members
- (“mailing lists”) a discussion mailing list gathering all the team members
-other mailing lists can be created
-(“tasks”)a task tracker

the “summary” page shows the last inputs whether blog posts, post to mailing lists , edition of pages

The “contents” page shows all the type of contents created in the space  pages , mailing lists

Defining the short name of a space on creation

When you create a space,  do not put accent in the name of the space

Also choose carefully the name of the url of your space ( the second box) because this one cannot be changed once created .
Choose a durable and generic, and short name, easy to remember for your discussion mailing list and short to allow the address of your pages not to be too long

Set up the preferences of a space

On creation you choose if the space will be open or on acceptation , or if you will have an invisible space
then clicking on preferences you can edit the name of the title ( but not change the url address) and define which will be the start page when people access your space   - blog , summary , home page

Accepting  people that want to come in a space

As administrator you receive notification of people willing to get in , and can read their introductory message , however you cannot see their mail address, which is absurd (we hope this will be corrected soon),
clicking on the link in the notification message,

you get in the team management page  and can decide whether you accept or refuse their inclusion

Invite in a space people registered as users in openfsm

Go to “team” and input the user name of people you want to invite – You cannot customize the invitation and remind message

Invite in a space people not registered in openfsm

Go to “team” and input the mailadress of people you want to invite , you can customize an invitation message, and you can customize again the message when you want to remind them of the invitation if they do not answer

Being invited in a space

Once you are logged in the site , your name appears on the right upper corner

Next to your name there can be an orange figure,  click on it , then click again on the orange  “x messages “, this leads you to your profile where a series of message waits for you  - you can  click on accept or deny  to answer the invitation you have received

Also you received a message in your mailing box with a link to answer the invitation

Leaving a spaces

Go to your profile page ( click on the triangle next to your name on upper right )

Click on “account”

The list of all the spaces you are a team member of ,appears and you can click on “leave” for any of them

Accessing the list of my spaces

Once you are logged in the site , your name appears on the right upper corner

Next to your name there is a triangle: click on it and you will see the list of all the space you are in

Who administer the space ?

The person that creates the space is the first administrator
In the “team” section Administrator can accept new people in, or invite them, or  name other people administrators  (click on “member” column in the team list)
All administrators have the same rights, they can acess the “preferences” menu of the space

What is a page in OpenFSM ? what is collaborative editing ?

It is a way to build a common space , all members of the “team” can edit , and the history shows who input what

Edit a page  and save my changes  ?

Log in the site , Go to any page inside the space, click on “edit” on upper right , next to “view”and  the editor mode is set up, then  make your text inputs, then press on “save” at the bottom of the editor
up with a menu bar like a text processor, B for block letters, I for italics , setting bullets – link to create links Images to upload images tables to create tables

Create a new page ?

To create a new page from an existing page : click edit in any existing page, then click where you want to create the link to a new page  and type the name of the new page ( no accent  in the page name)-between double parenthesis  like this :

new page name+

Then click on save – and you will see that  “new page name” now appears in red

Just click on this red links and the page “new page name” is created for good , and you can edit in it right away

Editing my personal page

Each user in OpenFSM has its own editing space  - that can be reached by link from any collective editing space

It is advised to develop personal inputs and images in that space

To access your editing space click on the triangle next to your user name  on upper right side  - and click on “pages”

What is a link?

A link is an address associated to a text in a page  that  allows you to travel from page to page or to other internet pages outside OpenFSM

A raw link is just the copying of a internet address in a mail or a blog post

You can create

Create a link from a page to a page of the same space

Click on edit in the page you want to edit a link in , then highlight a group of words that will bear the link , then click on “link” icon, then select the target page in the list of pages of the space that appears on the link of the windonw , then the cooresponding address is copied in the right side text box, where you click on OK, than click on “ save” – the link appears in green

Create a link to pages of other spaces of OpenFSM

It is advised to open a new tab in your internet browser so you have in parallel

-the tab set on the “target internet page “ , and the tab set on the OpenFSM page where the link will be edited

Copy the address of the target  internet page address  ( right click when the cursor is on the internet address zone and copy”)  - then edit the OpenFSM page and  highlight a zone of text that will bear the link , then click on link icon , then paste the target internet page address in the right hand text box , then press OK, then press “save”  - the link appears in

Translate easily  to another language

The link below opens a new window with an online translator , that is enough for moderate size texts

Just set the start and target languages and copy the text to translate then click on “ translate” then copy the resulting text and paste it in the place you want

Access to Google translator,

Make my texts legible in several languages

You can translate texts  with the translators

For short texts, you can use a table to have simultaneously displayed short texts in several languages

For longer texts, you may prefer to have sequential presentation on a same page  using the international code of languages [EN] for english  [ ES] for spanish etc…at the beginning of each paragraph

Or you may prefer to have specific page by language : for instance  (page-en))  (page-es)) (page-fr))  (page-pt))  linking them from another page

Edit tables and some colors in a page

Click on the table icon in the editor after setting the edit mode

In any table when you click in a cell , there is a little symbol

A circle with a cross  - if you click you will delete the line or the column

A triangle  - if you click you will add a line or a column

The icon a the right side with one red cell in the middle, allows you to select the colour of one cell at a time

Upload Images ! in my pages

Upload you images click on the icon

Create a mailing list

Go to

Administer discussion mailing lists

The discussion mailing list is administered by the creator of the space
Choose one of the 3 type of moderation you want in preference

-Anyone who confirms their email address is valid can post and receive messages ( freer)

-Anyone can receive messages, but each posted message has to be approved by the list managers first

-Only those approved by the list managers can post and receive messages ( more controlled, note that any person for which you accept a post becomes subscribed to the list)

Create new mailing lists

Only administrators of the space can create a new mailing list

Each mailing list can be moderated by people that are not administrators

(these people are nominated by administrators in the “preferences” menu of the mailing list

(moderation is done in the “moderation” menu of the mailing list

(only moderators see the membership of the list in “membership” menu

Moderate mailing lists

You will receive notification of users willing to subscribe to the list and user willing to post on the list  you are led to a page where you can accept or refuse this

Invite people in mailing lists

Only administrators can invite, in “membership”

You can invite people  either by openfsm name or by mail address
The invited person receives a mail (in English for the moment) and can accept by clicking a link in it
