By means of this method of popular education & cultural work, intended to raise our awareness about the equal value of all human beings, we aim to counteract as a chain-reaction of hope, everywhere we find ourselves: at work, neighborhood and daily interactions the hate messages, prejudices and infected myths on the “cultural other” (“stranger”) - currently spread by populists, xenophobes, racists, fascists and neo-Nazis. This particular film is a documentary which won the first prize 2016 produced in Uppsala by SPARKRAFT FILM & MUSIKPRODUKTION, 52 minutes long with English subtitles.
Anders, one of the film directors will join us tomorrow to converse with the public. In a beautiful and compassionate way, this film tells the true story of “Juci” and “Marta”, two young Jewish women from Hungary, who after their liberation from Auschwitz came by boat to Stockholm and Uppsala in May 1945, where they raised their daughters: Susanne (a writer) and Katharina (a singer). The film portrays via dialogue between mothers & daughters how it is to convey this story and to keep the memory alive of this shameful crime to Humanity. After the film, we go around one by one in a circle to share our reactions and reflections on the film, making use of Freirean pedagogics and humanistic psychology.
