The role of feminism and women in the conflict has been discussed since the beginning of the protests. Several sources state the feminist demands were excluded from both Maidan and left wing protests.

At first the rebellion in the East was presented as the result of Russian military, then as pro-Russian armed men and finally a new group was included as very problemetic, old women willing to risk their lives to stop tanks and standing in the way of the so called "anti-terrorist" operation.
