English.

Teivo, Francine, Norma, Salete, among others, have contacted me concerning my recent proposals to the IC. I owe them an additional explanation. My proposal (in annex in the case that you have not seen them) had the sole intention of deepening the debate about the future of the WSF within the IC, in a world dramatically changing under our eyes. The way they were received witness the uneasiness that has been present for a long time and which was aggravated in Montreal.

Last December Pierre George sent us a document –so complicated and cumbersome and almost illegible, itself a demonstration of the distance between some of us the common sense of activists on the grassroots. In the very last section it said:

http://openfsm.net/projects/wsfic_fsmci/salvador17-input5-en/#C

“C / About strength of charter of principles as WSF political-methodological covenant

Where is the discussion? : There is no formal discussion on this topic in the IC. An IC member entity is proposing a radical change and has made an input. http://openfsm.net/projects/wsfic_fsmci/salvador17-input2 No other  IC member entity has spoken in favor of this in the recent discussions. At the meeting of the 16th october evening  several organizations active in the AML/WSA initiative have confirmed that they do not want to change the Charter. An input 3 comes in counterpoint to this input 2 http://openfsm.net/projects/wsfic_fsmci/salvador17-input12

Comment: It declares that there is no formal discussion on the topic, what is obvious. It refers a proposal without mentioning my name (impolite to say the least) and qualifies it as radical. It adds the nobody is interested in discussing it ( how does he know?) but says that several organizations have declared themselves against them (Which?) and it includes a link to an article by Oded Grajev, a very critical article of my proposals. Oded is a friend and I have always collaborated very loyally in his activities. What annoyed me was the use of the argument which we have criticized for so long, the proprietary argument. He argues that he had the idea of the WSF and that the original idea cannot be changed. In other words we cannot discuss the issue because we will be violating property rights.

My proposals aimed just at debating whether or not we should adapt to the new conditions of the world. The cruel truth is that in political terms the WSF does not exist today as a movement of movements. Mr.Trump decides that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and we have nothing to say. I must add that I am not at all sure of the rightness of my proposals.  I made two proposals because as things stand now it would be disaster to attribute more power to the IC without democratizing it.  But how to do it? But, on the other is it not necessary to renew it? Just look at the average age of its members…Would it be probably better to change its name to some less grandiose designation,  such as council for consultation and facilitation?

But as Pierre declares, there will be no discussion about theses topics. For that reason I have decided not to participate personally in the meeting of the IC but of course the UPMS will be very well represented by my friends. I continue to be an enthusiast of the WSF and will be very active in Salvador

Warm regards

Boaventura

I would like to send message to all the discuss groups of the WSF because there is no reason not to show our ddifferences to those that make up the WSF
