    Quelques remarques:
    - 17 personnes ont participé au sondage, ce qui signifie également que
    beaucoup n'ont pas participé
    - Tous les blocages (22 au total) provenaient de seulement 2 participants
    - Les résultats complets sont disponibles ici:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhOmEGGgOFqCdHRtdGJqa0Y1b0UzZlRQZVVMWEwyeFE
    - Nous n'avons pas décidé sur la façon de procéder, donc je suppose que
c'est à nous tous maintenant de voir où nous allons

Et le gagnant de notre petit concours est:

GlobalSquare avec un score de +6 sans blocages et sans que personne lui
    donnant -1

    Suivi par *:

to see where we are going

Well so my proposal would be to leave two more days (today and tomorrow) just in case someone wants to give a reason why now we shouldn't decide to use the name "Global Square".
If none complains about the process or no rejections of this, we should go ahead with this name, right? That's what we have done this all for. Obviously there is a problem with the level of participation, but many people on the list are here just to get informed or to help with something pointwise and decide not to intervene in anything else, I wouldn't ever imagine more than half of the people participating on the debate on the name.

Apart from that, I would personally like to know the reason to block this name's version in arab (SehaAlamiya). Is it because it is badly translated or it means something else than just GlobalSquare? Was it just a -1 taken too far? Was it a reason also to block GlobalSquare but that person didn't maybe see the two names when voting? Are we against using an arab version of the name in general or against using that particular one?

    • Points about the name Global Square

from Jasper on Jan 08, 2013 12:35 PM
       >> http://translate.google.com/

      Hi all,

I have some practical points and questions about the name Global Square.

*1. Global Square was already used*

I don't know who proposed this name, but as some of you already know,
the name Global Square has already been used for a project coming from
15M and Occupy movements, to build an online platform for the movement:
      http://roarmag.org/2011/11/the-global-square-an-online-platform-for-our-movement/
The project seems to be discontinued, but I would like to contact the
people who have been participating in that project (I know some of them
from the Squares list and maybe Mikifus who is on this list can tell
more about this as well). I think it's good to inform them, and -looking
at the goals of their project- they could be interesting partners to our
      initiative.

      *2. Domains*

The domain of theglobalsquare.org has expired, now ironically pointing
      to Global Casino Online
      globalsquare.net and globalsquare.org = $70 + commission
global-square.net and global-square.org = available for normal price
      (about 10 euro per year)
These seem the most logical options, but other variations are possible.

      *3. Translations*

Can someone tell if SehaAlamiya is a correct translation in arabic, and
maybe others can give correct translations in other languages.

        1. Translations
For the name in arabic is saha alshamila: ساحة الشاملة = means global square
        2- Tent to UNHCR :
Like I tell you in my previous email the camp must close soon , there is a
        big mobilization against UNHC .

        3- Nomad/Babel

I will repeat again At Monastir one of the decision token by the Maghreb
social forum is the to give an open space to the movement ( occupy,
indignados, indigné, 20 février, 6 april etc...) we can talk with them to
have some help for the sound system , lodging . For the space of the
assembly is Free for all the participant. About Nomad and babel we can
discuss with the local committee to provide that for us for free. All our
        group don't have money

4- link to the WSF: our event to be successful, that we should be open to
all discussions. We are not representatives of a platform or a network. We
must expand our event to all groups struggling for dignity. Within the forum
there will be groups that will intérésé by our actions (migration, woman,
youth groups Mashreq and Maghreb etc ....) why must be inside the Forum if
we really have an impact and change things. The forum should be horizontal
and should contribute to global action.

        ============================================================================
        1. Traduction

        Hi,

I think The Global Square is a compatible project. They are creating an
online platform, while here we are creating one on the ground. It is a
        perfect combination, a great coincidence.
It wouldn't be crazy to connect the projects if you like the name, by ,
it's part of the same idea.
They'll be happy to have new people and fresh ideas, and they can help in
many many things to this group.

  • Re: Result of the poll about our name / Résultat de l'enquête sur notre nom

from Heather on Jan 08, 2013 07:25 PM
    Hi all,

Thanks for the message regarding 'The Global Square' name on the Squares
mailing list. It would be an honour for us to have you use the same name, we
are of course the same people.

The name the Global Square is a reference to the Take the Square movement
which all of us in TGS were involved with. That is of course also known as
15M, Indignad*s, etc. We were also rooted in Wikileaks Central which is a
friend and root of Occupy, Anonymous, Day of Rages, Hope Riders, Jasmine
Revolution, etc. So The Global Square is all of us, if your group has the same
openness and desire to collaborate globally you of course use it with our
    blessing.

Regarding the TGS project, you will be associated with our previous and
ongoing work so you may want to know what that is. At heart, TGS is an idea
for a system of mass collaboration, so a methodology and tools that would
enable that. The project is not dead, but the documentation atm is incomplete.

The core principles behind the methodology are here, and they are half written
(sorry, time is very stretched, it will be finished soon).
    http://georgiebc.wordpress.com/category/collaboration/

The tools are p2p livestreaming and microblogging tools developed in
conjunction with the Tribler project which are beginning to be available here
(just as a basic livestreaming/filesharing tool, social media functionality to
    be added later):
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=TUDelft:+Delft+University+of+Technology

The technology underneath developing these tools as a p2p project is
completely new, we have been working with IETF to develop a new standard for
p2p microblogging and writing and testing the protocols the system will run on
over the past year. We are now at the point of producing working apps for the
end user and progress will be much more visible from this point.

Because our working method was stigmergy and there was no real ownership of
the project, there were sites all over the place for it, most of which have
been abandoned. I worked to set up many of those, but I only control one
Twitter account, @globalsq which I use for tech updates when we have them but
which I can also use to amplify your activities if you wish. There are many
other accounts that I do not know who controls, such as the Facebook page,
    @globalsquare twitter, etc.

I am also trying to get a handle on what ideas you wish to associate with the
name. Is this a group going to Tunisia? Are you a part of WSF or a counter
group or? Just catching up with everything you are doing here, I would
appreciate anything you can point me to to help me understand the group. I
will keep more up to date here from this point if anyone wishes to get in
    touch.

    All the best,

    Heather Marsh

      Hello everyone,

I have been busy with some projects with our new platform Autonomous Madrid. Iam trying to follow every email, but i got to say, just following this list has been quite a thing this past week. I must give my congratulations and thanks to those of you who are deeply involved in the many processes this wsf is creating. Thanks for the info you are sending almost every day.

Regarding the name, its not my favorite choice, but i dont block it or anything of the sort. Global Square it is.

      Best regards to all,

Hi Heather and Khrystian, It is great to hear from you both. I am also
feeling very good about the name Global Square. I think it matches
with the spirit of WSF encounter what we are trying to construct. That
would be great if you could take part in this project and spread the
        word in your networks.
If you just check the documentation of the previous meetings briefly
        here http://openfsm.net/projects/2011movements-fsm-wsf/2011mvfsm~xa0-index
you will see that the ideas are very similar as well as openness of
the group. Please spread the word to others it would be really good if
you or other comrades who are building up the TGS would come to Tunis
or we could link online and offline TGSs.
