just received this and I would like to share mariangela I just skyped my friend in Istanbul and she said it is all kicking off down there, with a massive unprecedented display of Turksih unity: the communists protected the Islamic socialists from tear gas while they prayed; the gays and lesbians and secularists and lefties put up banners togther, people held hands; every type and condition and profession and age of Turkish person is out there in solidarity against the riot police and their brutal tactics. There is a free shop, a temporary library (built of rubble) that people are donating books to, there is a general strike; fascists, communists, secularist kemalists and religious people are all being teargassed together. Football fans stole a police riot van and commandeered it then put it on sale; they also hijacked a huge digger and chased the police down the road in it; tear gas is dropping from helicopters and one of my friend's friends said it is coming into her fifth floor apartment. People are advising one another on how to cope with it. Air hostesses had a demonstration in which they used airline seatbelts to pretend to hang themselves to show how they feel about what the government is doing to everyone. Every few kilometres there is some sort of demonstration. The government called the demonstrators looters, so now everyone is taking the name 'looter' and adding it to their own name or using it as their new surname; teachers are building it into their lessons; people are saying good morning chapelje (looter) to each other. they are trying to meet immense brutality with humour and intelligence. They switch their lights on and off and bang their pots and pans to show solidarity and protest. They hand out flowers and cakes to police. What started as a simple protest went large after police attacked protesters who were sleeping in the park to protect it, burned their tents and teargassed them. Now there is a spontaneous display of national unity which might be unprecedented in the history of Turkey. . She says people think the government were hoping for a more violent reaction so they could bring in the army. Two people have already died at the hands of the police and they have used a kind of gas that paralyses and tried to push or pushed paralysed people into the water. No-one knows where it is going and the government are displaying massive arrogance. What started as simple demands to be listened to are changing to calls for resignation. Our skype failed so that is all I could get so far. Your man in Hut 14 PF

Re: international solidarity events OccupyGezi add report from actions
from serkanba on Jun 10, 2013 09:24 AMhello, we are, some chapullers from gezi park, want to point out what is going on other resistence areas all over Turkey. Because even though there is huge interest of foreign press, still police violences in other neighborhoods are not as visible as gezi park. things happining gazi district is terrible, and also in other cities, such as ankara, the resistence and struggle is going on full power. thus, we wanted to share news everyday through supportgezi.org. we are trying to come together with people at the platform we build in the park, a kind of debate ground, and discuss what is going on, what has happened. Then we will publish it through internet and send news to local and foreign press to create attention to ongoing resistece.. please help us for translation and also for spreading the word. best, supportgezi.org Serkan 2013/6/7 marita <maciacia50@...> > hi > if somebody could add a new category (report) to the map > > http://www.geziglobal.tk/ > > > all we can add report from the action we have done already apart from the > ones we are going to do the 8th and 9th > mariangela > > > > > > -- > Archive: http://openfsm.net/[…]/1370604356114<http://openfsm.net/projects/2011movements-fsm-wsf/lists/2011movements-fsm-wsf-discussion/archive/2013/06/1370604356114> > To unsubscribe send an email with subject "unsubscribe" to 2011movements-fsm-wsf-discussion@... > penfsm.net <2011movements-fsm-wsf-discussion@...>. Just to let you know, Facebook has twice censored our page for the Global Call for Solidarity. The page was made collaboratively our Turkish sisters and brothers. At the same time, yesterday Facebook erased 4000 profiles of Greek social activists, independent journalists and anti-fascists. Just as a side note, it's about time we seriously start thinking abandoning Facebook for one of the many open source alternatives.
