Dear Ola,
I am writing this note in English with a copy to Enrique Aranda, to gladly
inform you that Enrique Aranda (and his brother Adrian) have been released
from prison in Mexico City after decades of unjust imprisonment.
As you most likely know, PEN International was involved with his plight,
and Eugene Schoulgin directly intervened on his behalf and visited him in
prison on various occasions.
Friends of Pen Club-Uppsala supported Enrique's plight locally in various
ways, including an ad-hoc meeting and commitment to fight for his release,
the translation and publication of a long and mournful "endecha" written in
prison by Enrique, and published in one of the anthologies published by
Literaturcentrum, Studiefrämjandet in Uppsala (with your foreword), and we
wrote several letters to Marcelo Ebrard, former major/governor of Mexico
City and  phoned his human rights office requesting  his release.
We share this joyful news with you and our decision to continue our
struggle for another possible world where freedom of thought and speech of
writers, journalists and citizens prevail in the end, hand in hand with
justice, peace and democracy for all
