About CommemorAction: Global Day of Struggle against the regime of death at our borders and to demand truth, justice and reparation for migration victims and their families

from Edda Pando on Jan 23, 2022 11:39 AM
*Dear friends,*

*First of all we would like to thank you for signing the call for the
Global Day of Struggle against the regime of death at our borders and to
demand truth, justice and reparation for migration victims and their
families. Thank you for accepting the invitation to collectively build
initiatives around the date of 6 February 2022, the eighth anniversary of
the Tarajal massacre.*

*Below you will find general information about the CommemorAction process
and practical guidelines for the Global Day of Struggle on 6 February.*

*Please read the text carefully!*

*Thank you*

*WHAT ARE COMMEMORACTIONS?*

CommemorActions are actions that commemorate people who have died, gone
missing or become victims of enforced diappearance on their journey across
the world's borders.

Born out of collaboration between friends and families of the disappeared,
especially in the Mediterranean, and activists who collect their
testimonies and support their claims, the first CommemorAction was
organised in Morocco (Oujda) in 2020.

*They are both commemorations and protests,* mixing political messages and
artistic performances, but above all, connecting grieving relatives with as
many people as possible, and together creating platforms to share their
stories and demands.

CommemorActions are spaces to remember the victims and collectively build
processes that can support families in their demands for truth and justice
for their loved ones.

*THE COMMEMORACTION PROCESS in 2022 CONSISTS OF TWO EVENTS:*

* 1. GLOBAL COMMEMORACTION DAY, EVERY 6 FEBRUARY, WITH DECENTRALISED
ACTIONS *

* 2. THE GRAND COMMEMORACTION. THIS YEAR THE GRAND COMMERACTION WILL
TAKE PLACE IN TUNISIA IN SEPTEMBER 2022.*

*1. DECENTRALISED COMMEMORACTIONS ON 6 FEBRUARY 2022*

For many years on 6 February the Tarajal massacre of 2014 is commemorated,
where 15 people died and others disappeared while trying to reach the
Spanish coast.

The migrants drowned in front of the Guardia Civil, who fired rubber
bullets and used other riot gear on them. This event has become a shameful
symbol of dehumanised migration policies.

*We call for decentralised days of CommemorActions on the weekend of 4/5/6
February in as many cities as possible.*

We ask you to share the call for commemoraction signed by many
organisations. You can find the call on the facebook page *Commemor-Action* and
on the website *www.missingattheborders.org
<http://www.missingattheborders.org>*

To join the appeal, please write to *globalcommemoraction@...
<globalcommemoraction@...>*

We invite you to use the logo of *CommemorAction*, as well as your own
logos, in the outreach of your events. You can download the logo from the
Fb page *Commemor-Action*.

In addition to the FB page, a FB group called *Commemor-Action* has been
created. In this group, all organisations participating in the
commemorAction will be able to publish texts, photos, posters, videos, etc.
related to the events they organise. The publication in the group is open.
We ask that you only publish material related to the Global Day of Struggle
on 6 February.

Here is the link to the Commemor-Action group:

<https://www.facebook.com/groups/330380128977418>

We also ask that you send the details of your events to
*globalcommemoraction@...
<globalcommemoraction@...>* by 31 January for publication in the
collective press release.

*Please submit these three details:*

1. Title of the event

2. Day, time, city and country where it will take place

3. Name of the association or associations organising the event

Example:

Marcia per i nuovi Desaparecidos

Thursday 3 February, 6.30 pm Piazza La Scala Milan-Italy

Rete Milano Senza Frontiere

*2. GRAND COMMEMORACTION IN TUNISIA IN SEPTEMBER 2022*

Since 2011, many Tunisian families organised themselves to demand truth and
justice for their loved ones who disappeared while crossing the
Mediterranean between March and May 2011. A year later, on 6 September
2012, another shipwreck occurred a few kilometres from Lampedusa in which
more than 50 people disappeared.

Ten years after the shipwreck on 6 September 2022 we want to meet again –
like we did in Oujda/Morocco in February 2020 - and join the families in
Tunisia for a Grand Commemoraction to continue building an international
network of relatives of the dead and missing migrants and to continue the
fight for the right to freedom of movement for all.

If you wish to be added to the mailing list for the organisation of the
Grand Commemoration, please send an email to *globalcommemoraction@...
<globalcommemoraction@...>*.

*Migrate to live, not to die!*

*People, not numbers!*

*Freedom of movement for all!*
